Ditto. The only breeds that I have/had and won't again are Andalusians. Like many Mediterranean breeds they do tend to be a bit aggressive. Pretty birds and large white eggs but nasty attitudes.

I wonder how much different they would be if there were more interaction with them. Not like house chickens or anything. I can call my chickens in because I go out every day around the same time with sunflower seed and scratch and toss them some and talk to them. They will come running from all over and I can get them into their coop and close it for the night stress free.

Welcome to the new folks! I've had/have Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, Easter Eggers, Silver Laced Wyandottes, and now Icelandics... They all do well in Tx weather. As far as temperament goes, the BRs have been the most calm and friendly birds. As for supplies, many of us DIY if you're into that. There's lots of great examples here on BYC.

Love my barred rocks - my black sex link & buff orp are probably my friendliest hens & I have a black jersey giant hen who is really nosy and all in my business when I'm in the coop lol...

Love DIY...my coop is DIY via my handy hubby!

I'll be interested to hear about your experience and what they do for this. TAHC does a lot of b.s. stuff because they get heavily lobbied by the commercial poultry/Big Ag interests and they're making all these stupid nitpicky regulations to try to mess with the small people. It's just getting a bit ridiculous with all the hoops they keep wanting people to jump through - especially when they keep trying to get regulations passed to be able to track everybody's animals.
Me too. But, I want to be legal with hatching eggs/chicks, poultry shows, auctions, etc. I am trying to do everything the right way. But, you are right it is a lot of hoops. I haven't heard from TAHC yet, I hoping to get them out of the way. Maybe this is something that was added recently. If they want to nit pick and register everything to the inth degree, I may as well get those Cayugas I have been wanting at some point too.

Hello all! I'm from Maine and the UK originally, but now I live in the Texas Panhandle with my boyfriend.
We have a barred rock, white crested black polish, black naked neck (found her at the local pound, was about to be euthanized!) and a Serama pair. I'm currently building a coolerbator and hoping to hatch little Serama chicks and PolishXserama mixes!

Wendy, what kind of incubator do you have...Looks like one I just sold.....

I just purchased this Little Giant deluxe. Item 11300. Did not callibrate it very good for set up. Humidity has been extremely high here. So I have had trouble keeping it down in bator. Got lots more reading & educating to do b4 I start back up in winter. I am suprised this one chick hatched.

I borrowed a well used bator last Sept when I started. It was a little giant - older, not digital. It was calibrated correctly and hatched better. So gotta learn my new bator.
