Locolobo56 here. Just joined the site a few weeks ago and just found this site. I hail from Angleton, Brazoria county about 50 miles south of downtown Houston. Did not read through all of the threads (3800+ of them?) but saw someone here from Sweeney. About 25 miles west of me. 6 Buff Orp hens and 1 rooster. HOWDY!!!!!

Good morning, chicken lovers! While I'm having to wait to get my coop up and running, I'm enjoying reading all the threads on this site to get some great input, ideas, etc. It amazes me that there are so many different breeds!

I want to start out with fertile eggs so I can go through the hatching process and get my chicks used to being handled. I have this "grand plan" in my head which might be a fantasy ... LOL. I know nothing about raising chickens but I'm willing to learn

Lots of great information and everything you need to know about getting started is here. Starting out with fertile eggs will be a blast. There's nothing more exciting then sitting and watching an incubator for hatches. The only down side is, you will probably end up with more roosters than you need. Keep us posted.

We only ordered 3 Easter Eggers. We have 3 crested cream legbars, 3 barred rocks, 2 black sex links, 1 sussex, 1 Wyandotte, and 1 sultan. I usually get 8 to 10 eggs per day. Even my sultan has been laying 2 to 3 eggs a week. I really want some bielefelders. I had more but shared my flock with my oldest daughter and a friend that had a little boy that wanted some. Couldn't say no to the puppy dog eyes. Lol

I have my coop up and running

but I've got the chicken fever. I have 20 production reds bought at 18 mos. old. The kind folks at McMurray hatchery sent me a catalog. Durn. Big mistake. Plus I could've help myself at Arrow Feed in Granbury

Americaunas, etc. Then I saw the Wyandottes in the catalog. Dominiques. I'm in trouble. Haha. My fiancee has to build a huge extension on the run. I saw a comment earlier about registering for gifts at Tractor Supply. I'm thinking that's not a bad idea. Anyway, you will find tons of good info here.[/quot


Register for gifts at TSC. Gotta get that on to do list. Sounds like chicken math is in favor for you. Hehe. Congrats on getting coop up and running and new fowl.
