Just wanted to share this picture I took today of my son and my chickens! Yes it's a boy, he's our fourth boy so my wife is picky about his hair since I've failed to give her any girls :-( I hope all is well with everyone!
PRECIOUS! I love the hair, he looks cool. (good thing he isn't kissing that chicken or you might be having to explain that

, JJ. (OK bad joke due to the Victoria Beckham kissing her daughter media hoop'la.)

How do you all keep your chickens cool in the summer? We have a raised hen house with an attached enclosed run. Half of the run is shaded all day and they confine themselves there for the most part, I think to stay cool but they are constantly panting and I feel terrible for them.
Ice cubes and frozen peas. Everyone LOVES their frozen peas around here. Panting is their cooling mechanism as well as heat loss through their wattles and combs.

my chickens eat it down to the rine to. We also give them frozen blue berry's they love that to.
I tried blueberries, but not frozen, just fresh. They looked at them like "What is she giving us NOW!!!??" They finally tried them and promptly spit them out. Oh, well! I'll try again, maybe they will like them eventually. The first time I gave them watermelon they turned their nose/bill up at it, now they can't wait for me to put it on the ground! Go figure!
