hey there everyone!

we are natalie and marcus wallum. we recently bought a ranch, that we are working on turning into a small farm just east of Austin. we are brand new to this lifestyle (city kids turned country - I'm from Seattle, he's from the Bronx), and we're brand new to Texas. chickens will be the first additions to our farm, with honeybees, goats, and maybe a horse rescue in the next few years. we are dreaming big!

Hi Everyone---

Remember a while back when I was concerned about the letter that Texas A&M sent out to people who have Pullorum-Typhoid Certificates? A&M is changing their testing process for those of you who don't know.

Dan Dykes just left here--- and he is working to visit everyone in his area -- and people in the area that someone retired out of, to get all of us our P/T certification before the turn over so that we will be good for a year. August 31 is the date the change goes in effect.

So -- whew, I have my certification -- good until 2018. That will sure make the transition easier..... IF Dan tests your flock, then he will be getting to you as soon as he can.

Just got whatever Ideal put in my box that day. But I'm pretty stoked to see what they eventually look like and even more so to see what eggs I get. I am in hopes of a rainbow, but I'm sure I'll just be tickled if they all lay well and stay healthy.

Hi everyone! I have a small urban coop in the middle of San Antonio. I bought my first 3 chicks from a feed store near my house and have been loving it ever since! I recently purchased 2 Rhode Island Red chicks from a hatchery outside of the city to add to my little flock but unfortunetely both chicks had cocci one of them passed away a few days ago so new were treating the survivor for cocci with 7 days of antibiotics.
Once we get her a clean a bill of health I want to get 1 or 2 smaller chicks about 2-3 months to keep her company so the bigger chickens don't pick on her when I start incorperating them. Does anyone know a good reputable source in the San Antonio/Austin area?

Ideal Hatchery in Cameron. I got 25 mixed layer pullet chicks shipped from them in June. All 25 growing strong. Nice group. You can pick up at their office in Cameron.
