My wife says one of our two is sitting at least 2 hours a day on them. I plan on contacting the silkie egg lady and putting our order on hold until she pulls a full 24 hour sit on the eggs.Keep us posted.
In other news we just had 12 foot tall 4x4's put in today. Wifey wants a horse stable in Mediteraenin blue, and I am getting a second coop set up but it will be painted in Texas Red. They will be sitting side by side with a run as well of around 300 square feet for those days when I do not wake up at sunrise. I cant wait until my broodies go active again so I can get my silkies started. I do not plan on covering the run as there is a great bush in there the hummingbirds love. Also our cat seems to kill all the possums that show up on the property so we don't have any predator issues.
Also I have to do hurricain tie downs on every connection since I live so close to the coast.
So that is where I am at today @RUNuts
Yep, we have thrown plenty of them over the back fence for vultures or whatever other wildlife takes them away. He is only a 14 pound cat but he is a possum/rat/bunny killing machine. You have a cat that kills possums???
Mine usually start molting around Halloween time.I'm in Haltom City (suburb of FtWorth). I have (10) girls; Americauna, Golden Wyandotte, White Wyandotte, Australorp and a Red Comet. Two pups are a B/T dachshund and Red Bone Coonhound. I've been buying from two local breeders in Lillian and Haltom City (retired guy works at Russell Feed).
Question: Do the hens usually molt in cold weather? or could I have too many in my 10x10 run so they're picking at each other when I'm not around?
Congrats!I finally gave in and bought a bator:

Getting 18 mixed fertile Silkie eggs sent my way in the coming up days. Hired my local go to guy to start framing out my coop. At least I get to save money on the roosts as 18-24 inches high is all my Silkie lady says they are willing to hop up.
