This morning did a few things in the yard and run...F

Finally finished weedeating all the potential hidden nesting sites on the property as I currently have two hens out of production my feral one(took three days of prison to break her broody), and a Sumatra I was convinced was hiding eggs for the dogs to find but like usual I was wrong. I didn't find a single convincing nest site.

I am starting to thin my native mama of mamas aloe vera plant. They throw up beautiful yellow flowers in the spring, however, the mother is in dappled shade and I am moving them into full sun(normal habitat), ran a 6 ft long row of the pups out front and will see how they take it. If this test run fails trust me I have tons more......and all 5 of my Agave transplanted in fine and are showing strong growth you can see two of my smaller ones in the back ground.

Tomorrow is errand day so buying up the months feed, and wednessday I get to run to Mike Heep's Nursery for natives, I have my shopping list ready for that trip:
Guavas, Anisacanthus, Guamuchil, and possibly a fig or two if they are native but I doubt it. @RUNuts today finally got my first purple passion vine up and reaching for sky as they finished their 2 months of cold stratification in the fridge. I am looking forward to seeing how these do, I have 2 native varieties that are finally taking off but they make tiny little flowers and berries.

@RUNuts are those going to be the teensy fingerling bananas? Gros Micheal or something else? I do wish I had rich enough soil for them.
Try not to laugh too hard. I bought a banana plant and the dogs mauled it. It is still struggling, but the dog regularly trims it in spite of my efforts. Seems it is fun to play tug-of-war with the leaves. We are not amused.

I wanted bananas but had no clue if I would kill them. I made a mulch run to the county dump and some one had pulled a bunch of banana corms out and threw them away. I rescued 5 and hence this batch I am calling Dump Bananas. They are doing better than the store bought one because they are acclimated. And the dogs don't maul them...

This is from the first banana that flowered. Haven't tasted it yet.

Man I'm hoping you didn't waste the effort on plantains.

My wife pulled off about 12 pounds of citrus yesterday and did some pruning of those bushes. Plenty of limes and lemons to go round. Well at least she saved us $5- in produce costs.

Lime and lemon juice freeze well and go great in Margaritas. I mean, smoothies.

Now, I'll have to look up plantains to see what the difference is. If they are, I'll take the barricades down and the dogs will be occupied for 10 minutes. Or just fry them up.

My sister eats bananas green. The moment one has a black spot, she is finished with it. I put the black ones in banana nut bread. Mmmm!

In a couple to a few days I am going to be receiving 11 Sumatra hatching eggs from Stewarts Longtails, they have so many beautiful longtail breeds they are worth searching the forums. I don't know if she unsubscribed or quit us her BYC name was @onagadori they are located near Tyler, TX.

I do want to add in 6 Malay next month as well, you think 1 acre down here will support 4 Sumatra +1 Bantam OEGB, 16 Silkies, 8+ Sumatra, +6 Malay? So 35 Chicken in total with supplemental feed of Scratch plus 24% Starter Grower?

I thought you were holding a silkie farm? Returning to Sumatras, got it. Do you have a broody or incubating them?

I was thinking of doing a 50/50 split with the incubator I have one who bites the bejesus out of me when I break her and I am thinking she can keep some eggs. I have had 5 broody breaks this week from 5 in lay.
