Texas

Yes we are proud. We are also the Black Eye Pea capitol of the world -and we know how eating those got started. It was cow feed. During the civil war, Sherman's troops burned the fields, but left the black eye peas fields because they didn't think they were worth anything. It was lucky they didn't and that is why they are considered lucky.
Very interesting! I’m out relationship, I had to learn very quickly that there is a bug difference between black eye peas and purple hulls and purple hulls are the edible ones according to in-laws. I kept the peace.

And I should have said absolutely upfront that I agree with you and the chick starter of Dumor is a 20% protein and not as pricy as Purina. Purina makes a great feed also but when I’m feeding 200 chicks, I have started to look for ways to continue high quality feed and save several dollars a bag. Kiki I wasn’t contradicting you , but I left out a whole bunch of info there that could have made everything more clear. Sorry for the confusion I Caused. My bad. I’m one of those guys that says something, thinking 🤔 everybody knows what I know ( not very much), what Im thinking and where I’m going with it and then I’m puzzled when no one gets it. 🤣. I have to laugh at myself all the time.
And you weren’t comparing feed makers either., just me. That was me all on my own.

New member from Montgomery ( near renfest) :frow I’ve referred to byc over the years to get answers but now I’m a member!
Oh my, it's been almost a decade since I've been to Renfest AKA TRF.

Welcome "official newbie" from a 'still green' rookie.

That is some iconic "Michigan style snow imagery!" Great shots.
Thanks Monk, I just wanted to give people in south, central, and east Texas of what we call a great thing because of its life giving moisture. We expect or should I say hope to get these deeper snows two to four times in a season with lighter ones scattered about. It’s a different world up above the caprock than down below it. As kids when we visited kinfolk in Colorado City, Tx we thought we were in so much humidity . And Abilene seemed the tropics to us. We another 2 day snow event coming next week also. This snow happened Monday and Tuesday of this week and we still have quite a bit that has not melted. Last weeks snow was a ~15 hour event and put down maybe only 3”. But it all counts. Our soil is a sandy loam that’s pretty deep and extremely easy to work with given water. Excited to see what happens next week with that snow. I had patched up air leaks in the chicken houses before this one hit. The chickens didn’t know what was happening outside, I don’t think. They stayed dry and toasty with their heat lamp in each house and air and moisture leaks plugged. Didn’t even let them outside on Tuesday it was so bad and Wednesday upon opening the doors to let them then go outside, the look of shock and amazement in their faces was priceless. Chickens do have expressions and definitely they communicate. Yes they do some dumb stuff that we don’t get but also they find ways to amaze me daily. If you’re around them long enough, a person begins to pick up on some of their vocalizations and their meanings. I’m constantly wigged out by people who say they do not like chickens at all or are absolutely afraid of them. Last April- June, I had a couple of large lineman and linebacker jocks helping at the farm. They were horrified to reach under a hen sitting on a nest to gather eggs from under them.

Yeah.... That snow forecast for us fell short, by about 20 odd statute miles to the west of us.... And instead. We got ~2" or solid rain.

Here's a little proof of that rain that was snow for you.... IMG_20200210_162726946.jpg
That trench was about 85% dug, it just needed to be leveled for drainage.

Some serious wet going on there. I’m trying to recognize your soil. It looks like a black clay but rock in it too. Where part of the state are you in bud? Texas is such a diverse state, all kinds of soils. And weather! That rain covered a large part of the state.. And what you working on there?
