I've got month old chicks that I'm trying to transition outside without heat. This is limiting my transitioning. They huddle in the center of the tractor and scream. So much easier with a broody.

3/8 of January hatch are cockerels. OK. Aiming for meat birds this year.
3/6 of February hatch are appearing to be cockerels. 2-3 will be going to new home IF they are pullets.

Last year I wanted pullets and 7/8 were cockerels. Put a damper on the egg laying.
Am I complaining again? Is it Monday?

this is texas, and heat is a fact of life. That being said.....
I HATE hot. You can take off all your clothes, and still be hot.
Cold-you can usually get warm. I layer clothes-THIS IS TEXAS. Shorts/t-shirt then pant/long sleeve, then flannels, then coat. Then I gotta go pee....... I shed clothes as needed.
I'm tired of cold, don't want hot, but warmer would be nice.

I used to take off my clothes outside, but then my husband got friendly with the neighbors, and I was using so much sunscreen. I'm gonna leave some of my clothes on and complain about the heat!

Well, summers here, 89°F today...had to turn the AC on for the first time this year!

I've had mine on for several days. I can't stand it when the house is humid.

DONT FORGET TO CHANGE CLOCKS.

I much prefer it the other way. lol This getting dark late means I'll be outside after work until 9-10 and get inside and have to shower, eat dinner, and then get to bed. So I never get enough sleep.

This last several days have been a few significant projects with “productive works in progress days.” Even with the depression kicking on twice in the last 2 weeks now….

Found a tractor salvage yard in Upstate NY that had the skin for the cub cadet I scored last month. (Given that my cub’s currently in a coma from overheating.)

Here’s what it looked like when I got it… minus the FEL (front end loader) as I transitioned it to this tractor for the time being…



And a poor ole ‘bota that had been very neglected by at least 2 previous owners that I have really cleaned up. Have done some mystery solving on it recently too! She is quite solid and stout still, was just absolutely caked in decades of mud-plus.

Took 4 days of spraying PB blaster onto the input shaft, crowbar prying, hammer tapping on the PTO gearbox for the shaft to finally slide off. Took almost 4 days with the shaft pulled mounted and under considerable pressure with several times a day spraying PB blaster onto the belly shaft for it to finally “Pop free” of the gearboxes output shaft. Sharpened them bushwhacker blade in what seems to of been the 1st resharpening they ever had! No pics yet but, that 6’ deck is standing on the 3 point hitch while the front end loader bucket is resting on that tail wheel and you can see parts of the “ratchet straps” holding that deck to the front of the cub too.



I’m feeling reasonably productive as I wait for slightly more stable weather to begin the repairs and upgrades to the coop & run!

My VA Resource center class starts next Monday… welding certification… gonna get rid of some bad habits in the process too.

I should have said that the neighbors occasionally drop by unannounced, since he introduced himself to them.

I had to make a trip to the Kubota dealer today (an hour round trip) to buy some hydraulic fluid.
I got home and discovered that they sold me engine oil! Now I get to make another trip tomorrow.

How low is the hydraulic fluid at this moment?
Perhaps waiting a day or two more to read this thread on fluids?

I don’t use cheap stuff for normal tractor usage. I have a bucket of “cheap stuff” to use when I’m testing 12V hydraulic pumps stuff and cylinders for seepage or if the seals are good… then I try to drain them as much as possible and remove the hoses and actually plug the threaded holes while the cylinder is stored.

When I’m done with its utilitarian restoration then I shall share a pic or two of it “cleaned up” and likely a shot of it having mowed the back yard.
