We do not have a problem with the squirrels. Mocking birds get a few tomatoes sometimes. Our biggest issue has been armadillos. Between me and two other neighbors we have taken out close to a dz this summer!

Box them up and send them to me.. i love the 'dillos!

I spent all weekend on the cage. This thing is huge and is taking way more than I expected. I have all sides done and only 1 row of 4 for the top. We decided we are not going to share with the birds, squirrels, rabbits or deer. I have not seen one Armadillo thus far (fingers crossed). I thought I would share a picture of my pain. The only reason this is even an issue is because until this is done I can not build my coop.

Because of the heat I am outside every hour refilling the waterer's. I think I need a serious intervention.

Still no rain here! My tomatoes stopped setting blooms weeks ago. Right now, just keeping them alive hoping I can get another round out of them when it cools off a little. The peppers don't really seem to mind how hot it gets. As long as they get a drink now and again, they keep on producing!

Armadillos are terrible. They have been a problem in the past digging up my yard but don't really have issues with them in the garden since it has a cinder block retaining wall and wire fencing that keeps the critters and deer out.

Egg output finally slowed... Have a fan for them, but they are still panting. Another few weeks and hopefully it will start to cool off a few degrees.

Still hatching but not having as good a luck as I had been. I think the eggs are getting too hot sitting outside all day and killing them off. I keep trying though. Trying to get a large batch of Lavender OEGB chicks to sell.

WFA, most impressive!! Sent you a PM. Tim63, I'm interested in the show on 9.24. I've sent an email to Mr. Fitzgerald for info. If nothing else but to come and see. Don't know if any of my girls are good enough to show . . . not yet anyway !!

Haven't had any trouble with dillos and have "relocated" the coons to the neighbors stew pot. Not hatching eggs. I'm gonna by myself a bator for Christmas. I've been looking at the genesis. My egg production has been horrible with the weather. Somedays I'm only getting 1 or 2, yesterday I got 4 and was happy (right now I have 9 girls old enough to lay)

Hello from Arlington;

Been lurking for quite awhile and decided it's time to introduce myself

My wife and I both grew up in families that raised their own food and have decided it is time we headed back in that direction.

Just getting started on the Chicken Coop and have learned a lot of great new info on this site.

I do have one request though:

"relocated" the coons to the neighbors stew pot.

I need that recipe for "Coon Stew".
