Théo and the chickens des Sauches

love the photo of your partner and Pied Beau; looks like they had words, of the form 'This is my lunch not yours' :gig
Well, it's a good thing he has better manners than Merle and doesn't actually dive in our plate because seen how big he is, it would be a problem 😉.
He is such a goof! He reminds me of Gaston at his age, but he is bigger and not as gentle with the hens.
And I keep meaning to take a photo of a hat I got given - it is the same as your Partner's hat but with chickens printed on it. I love it!
You got given a similar hat, or were given ? It's called a Bob in french and it's iconic of our equivalent of rednecks ! What is it called in english ?

My partner found this hat when he used to drive the tram in Nice. He liked it so much that instead of taking it to the tram's lost and found place, he stole it 😆.
That's the kind of thing I would never, ever do. I found money bills twice, and managed to get them back to the owners. I’m a much better christian than my partner even if he did the baptism and communion thing and I grew up in an atheist household 😂.

Kara has a problem but i’m not sure what. She spent two hours in the nest this morning but didn't lay, and she has horrible slimy diarrhea, but other than that she acts normal, not at all like she is sick or egg bound. She eats, she moves around, she dustbathed...I checked her carefully for lice and didn't see any. She’s one of the chickens who doesn't poop tapeworm segments. So nothing to do for now but wait and hope it's not serious.

It was very warm today with a lot of wind, and the pullets spent the whole day with the adults inside the netting. Even Pied-Beau stayed inside most of the day with his Lilly. I gave them some of the last water melons we had kind of forgotten in the garden and they went crazy for it. They hate the wind and they went to roost really early, at 6.45, even though it was still sunny and blue. At roost time Nougat did not climb on the roost and went to hide on the floor in a corner , looking like she had a laying issue. That has happened twice to her before and both times she passed the egg during the night. But this time she laid a soft egg about fifteen minutes after, and went to roost. I think she needs a break. Of the three ex-batt's she is the only one that lays , five times a week, huge eggs, and since the end of summer they have become weak shelled, sometime with calcium deposits.

Gaston's butt doesn't look any better. I’ve no idea what it could be. I don't think there are any red mites left in the coop now or very few. The few threads I found that mentioned the same problem say it's either pecking or hormones. I’m sure he’s not being pecked, and it looks too inflamed to be hormonal. I’ll just do the aloe again for a week and hope it helps a bit. He had a nice long dustbath today, hope it soothes things a bit.

I heard two hens making broody sounds and beginning to puff up .. Léa, not a surprise, and Lilly ! It would be her first go at broodiness if she does turn broody.

Chipie has almost grown her tail back. She is still molting on the head and neck. She has really handled it well this year!

And here is my fine Bob or Bucket hat.
It was a birthday present. I am sure I look like a total idiot in it but I don’t care!

I love it too! That's a very cool present!

Not much to say today. Sun shining again, the chickens looked good but too hot in the afternoon. Gaston's molting pretty bad but he seems to be in good shape. Kara still hasn't laid ...but doesn't look sick. Blanche was more active than she has been for a while, and followed the group of chickens up and down several times. And Léa is making broody noises and I had to take her out of the nest after she laid, but she did not attempt to get back on it.

Morning run
