Théo and the chickens des Sauches

when my dad explained for the first time to my grandma on my mum's side what he did with a computer (he had access to those quite early), she listened politely and ended up asking "and how much is this M. Computer paid ?"
That's gorgeous! And an example of what AI can't do very well yet.

Both amusing on french people's love for demonstrations and strike, and aggravating on the substance of it !

If Macron had submitted his reform to a vote in parliament it was likely to pass even if two thirds of french people disagree with it. Instead he used article 49.3 like he has been doing for all important laws since he began his new mandate which allows him to skip a vote by engaging his government's responsibility. I don't call this brave, I call it stupid, and I think it will greatly help the extreme right in the next presidential election by dividing again the traditional conservative right.
You have to hand it to the French, they know how to riot.:D

It makes new jobs too. Especially in research and product development.

Btw, we have a shortage of all kind of professions. The ones named above, But also teachers, recruiters, people in marketing and communication, all kind of technicians, plumbers , luggage workers at the airports, people who harvest vegetables and flowers, etc.

But my chickens don’t care, as long as they can free range a few hours every day and get enough scratch /treats. Their worries have more to do with being the first when the lady with the feed comes. Getting out of the rain. Or hail (yesterday we had hail!). Avoiding cats and of course being cautious for predators.

Tax for being too much pf topic :

Ini mini (almost 9 yo) and her youngest daughter Janice 4 yo, still laying very well.
I'm pretty sure chicken do politics, in the original sense of rules and behaviour to allow a community to live together.
In fact I think on some points we are their pale copy - the way they have turned demonstrations of power and speeches and debates into dramatic shows for example 🙂.
Ini Mini is incredible!
Positively tipping them over in fact.:D It won't be very far in the future when the idea of work is going to drastically change. What are we all going to do?
It's been said and analysed a thousand times but the AI thing reminds me so much of Asimov's robot series.
You have to hand it to the French, they know how to riot.:D
I for one was demonstrating on my mum's shoulders before I learned to swim 🙂.
Detach the distribution of wealth from work and wages. I think it's the best way.
Universal income and AI slaves 🤣. I think I would love it.

We had a very windy day and beautiful blue skies. Blanche had already laid an egg when I opened the coop and Nougat also laid later in the morning. Piou-piou after spending some time in various nests inside the coop, actually ended up laying in the nest I had made them in the woodshed ✌️! Merle and Léa as far as I could tell did not lay today so I hope they will join her tomorrow.

Merle is now becoming totally familiar and ill-mannered. Before I had the time to grab her she jumped on the table while I was having lunch and swallowed in half a second some ham cartilages I had left aside on my plate 😱. I hope it won't harm her. Then when I went inside to get some water I found her standing on one of the plate.... cleaning them up! She's terrible and when I tell her off she seems to laugh at me!

We've finished putting the mesh on the shed's door but didn't have time to pour the concrete. It should be done tomorrow.

Roosting got me pretty upset again. Blanche followed Chipie jumping from roost to roost to attack her for at least 15 mn. She is partially blind and near the end but she finds the energy to do this ! In the end Chipie didn't manage to get back on Théo's roost and she slept next to Léa. But Chipie is really not clever- she attacked Cannelle today again. She has made an enemy of the only Ex-batt that used to agree to sleep next to her without trying to kill her.

This morning I went to see Gribouille, the old horse who is alone now. I hadn't found the courage to go back since the mare's death. I saw Claude, an old neighbor who feeds him bread everyday, he said he was doing better now and not calling for her all the time.

We had a bit of rain yesterday and the mountains were snow touched this morning.

When there is a lot of wind little Théo get swiped away, it's rather funny as he's obviously very vexed.

Merle is obviously a some kind of a cat (and not a pussy). 🤣

She is just letting you know that she expects a good lunch!

It's incredible how the four chickens from the same hatch turned out to have such different personalities. I agree, Merle is a cat's soul in a chicken's body! Her and Gaston are certainly the most familiar of all our chickens. Now they all come around for lunch, but Piou-piou and Léa are more the type to jump at fingers and run.

We had a wonderful spring day today, though it was -2 this morning and freezing like it hadn't been for a long time. Off course I hadn't looked at the forecast for once, and forgot to cover the salads and baby plants! Hopefully they survive a short freeze. Then, there was no wind, sunshine and around 18°- one of those rare days here when the weather is really nice. All the trees are blossoming and we hear the neighbor's cow's bells and the roosters from all over the village. It's so nice.

However we had again a flight of raptors this morning, three eagles and four Gallicus hawks, so Théo's team was really worried and stayed hidden most of the day.

When I opened the coop Gaston and Merle were already waiting behind the door- we almost had a diplomatic incident because Merle immediately went back in the coop to lay but Gaston couldn't get in with Théo. I avoided a fight by taking him out. Then Blanche and Nougat both laid. It's the first time since she's gone back to laying that Nougat laid three days in a row, and all healthy eggs. However she still has horrible poops at night 😱.

We finished the concrete! Well, almost finished because we forgot a hole in the stone wall that my partner intended to block with concrete. Now we just need to put the mesh and the shed will be "predator safe"- at least, sufficiently to leave the chickens for a day when we need to...which is this Sunday - there is another event at my partner's family 😱.

The weather was far less engaging today : windy, grey, warm and oppressive. I didn't see the chickens in the morning. My partner told me Merle had laid in the coop while Blanche was unhappily waiting for the nest. Merle is on the way to a broody mood again, and she stays for ages in the nest. Blanche had then laid a fragile white shell egg (three in a row is too much for her) and he had heard Chipie screaming like when she wants to lay, except we couldn't find an egg from her. I'm pretty sure she has begun a stack somewhere 😂.
Piou-piou laid again in the wood shed and Léa didn't lay though she spent a long time looking around different nests.

My partner finished the concrete this morning and this afternoon we changed our mind and put some more lumber instead of mesh on the upper parts of the shed's sides. With the crazy wind we have had these last days, there was just too much draft inside.

I haven't seen anymore worms but I'm still seeing some pretty unhealthy poop. For the ex-batts this has been the case for a long time, but Gaston's team used to have perfect though slightly greenish poops and now I see quite a bit of diarrhea. Apart from Merle who has every now and then lethargic moments, especially in the morning, they are all very active, so I don't think I need to worry too much.

Running down the village this morning, I passed the house where I had seen Chipie's twin last year and saw hiding in a bush on the side of the road two bantam roosters with two broodies and a countless hoard of chicks 🤣. I have to go down again on Friday so I hope to see them better and try to take some pictures.
