Oh dear. I am guessing yes, broody.
She had several bloody pecks on eyelids and ears, it's a hawk that will eat the brain out, but they all looked superficial to me. There was a huge feather pile where he got her, so she must have struggled, but it lasted less than a minute. She was in a state of total shock and disorientation however and since she has a number of issues that is what worries me for her.So sorry about Blancheis she injured?
Oh no no no no NOO!!!!Sounds broody to me! Looks like she has a cozy spot for her nest, but might be hard to get her out of there if you want/need to.
Are you going to let her sit?
Well, things have evolved. We're going to have to let her sit.Merle's youth and good health set her up well for sitting, she might recover faster than older hen would. My neighbours have kept hens for a few decades and they told me not to worry when a hen wants to sit, just remove her eggs every day and keep an eye on her to make sure she's eating, drinking and bathing every now and then. Brooding hens don't need their usual quantities of food because they're not using as much energy as they normally would. Even so, I still prefer to discourage sitting once a hen has sat for more than three weeks. I have found placing her on the roost at night is a reliable method, even if it has to be repeated for a few nights in a row.
On the other hand, on byc there's a lot of anxiety about letting hens sit and people prefer to break them. I've read posts in which people worry about hens losing condition and maybe there's something in that. But I still don't worry about it too much because it's natural for a hen to sit (and I'm someone who rushes sick hens to the vet).
That's great news about Blanche! She's a lucky hen.

Nothing went as planned today. We needed to get Gaston's team locked in the barn for the day to go for Christmas at my parent's. They refused to come with us. My partner got upset after a while and started screaming and that was the end of it. They were terrified and running over all around the place however much sunflowers, walnuts and apples we handed for them. After an hour and a half, I managed to catch Merle and Léa and take them up there. He brought Piou-piou driving her with a stick. We left Gaston outside thinking he was big enough to fare on his own. Everyone was in a panic and we were both really upset at the chickens and at each other.
We came back at four, so half an hour before roost time, and I found only Léa in the barn. Merle and Piou-piou had managed to escape!
Turns out there was a hole on the floor hidden by hay that led to a room on the first floor that has open windows. Piou-piou was with Gastounet and Merle was nowhere to be seen.
After we got the other chickens to roost and looking around her old nest we finally found her hidden far under the woodshed. My partner managed to get her out and take her in the coop. She had no eggs under her. But we can't have her staying underneath pallets and logs in places we can't reach her but where a rat or a fox could.
So I'm going to try to put her in the first nest she had made tomorrow with an egg, but make it more shallow so I can reach her. We will be able to block that nest for the night, from foxes at least, and let her for three weeks in there. My partner started saying he wants chicks but I don't want to hear about it as long as we haven't sorted their housing situation. I think we're going to divorce over the chickens.
Oh no, don't worry, I meant this as a joke ! We did shout at each other, but I think it was more because my partner, just like me, hates doing Christmas at his inlaws. And yes, it always astounds me that even in my dream life, I can get upset and angry at silly things ...but that's human nature, or mine, I guess !It does upset me when I know you two are fighting rather than loving your life with such beautiful chickens (and old farm house, and mountains, and garden, and, and, and).
