What type of goats do you have?
Poppy, is Nubian/Nigerian

And her son, Sheriff is Nubian/Nigerian//Nigerian.
So basically, they bred her with a Nigerian to get an even smaller kid.
He’s a cutie!🥰

Joy first.

Now for the sadness….
3 weeks ago, I bought my final batch of chicks for the year.
We were going camping a week later, so I built them this cute, little, outdoor brooder.

They accepted it the first day, and have actually enjoyed it!
Living well, and peacefully!

This morning, I went out to refill the chicks feed and water.
Upon arrival, there was a lot less chirping than usual.
When I opened the lid, there were dead chicks everywhere….

When I looked into the house section, a fat, baby skunk was just laying there. Full, lazy, and asleep.

He didn’t see me, so I just slowly shut the lid, covered it with bricks and a drop cloth, so he wouldn’t get out, and ran in to get my older brother. (Who is much more experienced with guns than I am!)

When we got back out there, he, with the .22 in hand, got ready to shoot it.
I uncovered the top, lifted the lid, and just like that, the creep was dead.
(I wish there had been another way to do it…. My chicken run smells terrible now!)😅

This chick house was IN THE RUN, which was SUPPOSED to be SAFE!!!
Not any more….

😡😡😡
I will never forgive this skunk…

Here is my fix for the run:
IMG_4919.jpeg

Bailing wire.
Hopefully it holds.
In the 3 years I’ve had chickens in this run, this is the first time something has gotten in.

Sure, it gets into the run, I kinda couldn’t help it, but it’s all my fault that it got into the house.
You see, I was in a rush to finish it, so I didn’t paint it. The ‘crate look’ was cute anyway.
Well, it rained for three days straight after I put it out there. So, the lid bowed up, kinda like a bridge, or rainbow, and it was on the “soon” schedule to fix it. But not yesterday….
Apparently that’s how the butthead got in there.

I am so devastated!
I had so many beautiful birds… Speckled Sussex
Rainbow
Americana
Sapphire Gem
Production Red
Silver Leghorn
White Jersey Giant

5 survivors.
2 of which likely won’t make it

EDIT: to fix typos

Thank you…❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
One for sure won’t… I’ll probably lose her tonight, if not before then.
I absolutely HATE skunks!
And the part that makes me so mad, is that it only ATE 2, and then just killed everyone else in sight…
