Well, Kevin565, I'm Nickie, and I'm also a woman. I'm a natural blonde but I keep my hair a natural auburn shade that matches my skin tone. Lol. You are always pleasant and helpful to anyone with issues and I always pay attention when you, Miss Lydia, Amiga, and Oregon Blues post. I've kept ducks for a few years but we all can keep learning as we go forward.

Why thank you! I only had to two ducks when I started BYC. After a few months on here it lead to geese...then guineas...then Wolves. The only down side to this sections. ENABLERS EVERYWHERE

Ducks can indeed be "gateway" animals. Yup. I was going to get three ducks. Then I thought, well, six would be good. Minimum order was ten, and they tossed in an extra "peanut." Then Romy and Michele needed a home . . . .

I also am eternally grateful for everyone who participates in the Duck Forum. Don't know how this happens, but I have grown to love people and animals I have never set eyes upon.

I too, want to thank this forum. I am thankful for every tidbit of information from Niacin supplements, chick starter, puppy pads... everything!! And especially for the advice to give my Cinnamon (Saxony) a playmate, Sugar (white Call). They are so well suited for one another and get along famously. I wouldn't have known to have a companion for my duck had someone here not said something. The advice is priceless. And my ducks thank you for the peas!

I'm a wildlife Rehabber in NC. I recently rescued my first injured duck. Initially I thought it was a mallard, but later discovered it was a domestic breed. A female Rouen. She was badly injured by a car. Her mate hadn't made it,so we took her to the vet to get stitches and now she is our pet. She is doing well, but we thought she needed companions, so we ordered two ducklings from purely poultry. They arrived today. They had to be delayed in shipping by one day because of Veterans Day. The Rouen is doing great, but the white crested is very listless. She has only drank water on her own. I have added water to the poultry crumbles and fed her some with an eye dropper and chased it down with water with added raw vinegar. I also did the same with some cooked egg yolk once today. I have them in a brooder that is a large clear sterilte container and they're nest is a small box with two rice socks sitting on top of a reptile pad for heat. I used the reptile pad with all of my orphaned baby squirrels and bunnies and have had excellent results. It is constant consistent even heat. It's at 95 right now. I have a thermometer that is set to ring if it gets hotter than that, but I've found that once you get the temp you want, it stays that way. I also am giving them two drops of none iron infant vitamins once a day. Is there anything else that I should be doing for them? I have a mentor for my wildlife babies, but not for my ducklings so I'm hoping you guys can help. I have a tractor supply close if I need to pick anything up from them. The duckling arrived weak eyed and sick. I expect the shipping delay wasn't good for her as they fed her and then shipped her, which I've read is not ideal. I would appreciate any ideas that have worked for you.
