Looking forward to reading stories and pics of your chicks, I’m not a chicken owner yet, but my husband will be retiring next year.
We will be moving to northern lower Michigan. I want to have just a few chickens mostly for pets, so I wanted to get experts opinions on which chicks make the best pets and housing ideas also.
My family had chickens, my dad had Rhode Island reds for years.
They were more for laying then for pets.

Thanks again for adding me

Hello Janet and welcome to BYC.

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping birds - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

TO BACKYARD CHICKENS

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!:frow Glad you joined the flock! BYC is a very helpful and informative site! I think all chicks might be the same when it comes to being docile or friendly disposition but the friendliest chicken breeds are definitely my delaware, red sexlink, and brahmas. Buff orpingtons are really friendly too if you are social with them from the time they are chicks. Hope you enjoy BYC as much as we do!
