Thanks for adding me!

Welcome to BYC. Everyday, spend 15 minutes or more sitting with them. Move slowly and speak quietly. Occasionally sprinkle some treats around you. I guarantee that one will approach you out of curiosity. Don't try to touch them at first. Let them initiate contact. Eventually you'll have two, three, or all of them climbing on your lap.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

As the others have stated above, it really depends on the breed, their environment, where they came from and whether or not they were socialized as chicks. You are not a failure! You may need to work on them to friendly them up though. Get yourself a bag of goodies and sit with them once a day, right on the floor with them. Offer treats, let them climb all over you, sit on your legs, eventually some of them will tame up. Pick them up often, if they will let you, this helps them learn you mean them no harm.

Best wishes with your birds!

Welcome to BYC!
Don’t worry. You aren’t a failure. Some hens are just not as friendly as others, no matter what their breed says they should be like! My Buff Orpington, normally an over friendly breed, vanishes when I open up the coop door, and you’d think a banshee was being murdered if you pick her up!
