Thank you for the add, the purpose of my interest is that I have been thinking about getting 3/4 chickens for the back yard. I have 1/2 an acre and live in an older neighborhood,(1959 era) and will be keeping the chickens in a coop with a run. I have about a 10' x 30' space that I could use for them. Looking at articles and general research prior to committing. Thanks again.

First thing first....build a big coop.


Don't waste time/money on a prefab that is too small and not predator proof.

You have plenty of room for a lot of chickens, and maybe some ducks too! May I suggest you consider a dozen quail too? Their eggs taste like chicken eggs, and begin as soon as six weeks.

Step 1, build a coop
Step 2, choose you breeds
Step 3, get your chicks/chickens/other
Step 4, sit back and enjoy (after you clean the coop, but the food, fill their water, and catch the escapees and put them and put them back in the pen...)

Hi, and Welcome from Southeast Missouri. You will thank yourself later if you spend some time researching coop styles, chicken breeds, general chicken health, etc. Good winter project, then by spring you will be ready to jump in.
