Oh hi! Finally on the road to realizing the backyard chicken dream and I've already been perusing the files here for opinions on everything from internal vs. external nest boxes to the pros and cons of medicated chick feed. What a fabulous resource we have here.

I've been daydreaming and obsessing about Faverolles for forever, hoping to get 3 or 4 chicklets to start just to see how it goes, only to find out it ain't so easy to get one's hands on that breed. So now I'll probably go with a couple of Speckled Sussex from the Co-op (buying a handful with a friend so we can meet minimum order of 6 requirements) and see what else they have on the day the itty bitties are ready to pick up.

I'm just so very excited. And nervous:)

Yay!

Have a great day everybody.

I hope you will enjoy the Speckled Sussex, I have 2 in my mixed flock and love them. Very sweet natured and beautiful girls. It's been fun seeing how their "specks" have changed since finishing their first hard molt (they have more white on them now).

If you haven't already, check out the Learning Center for some very helpful articles:

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I hope at some point you can get the Faverolles. They are a wonderful breed; beautiful, friendly and gentle, and good layers. In the meanwhile, Speckled Sussex also embody these same great qualities and I'm sure you will be very happy with them. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Thanks so much, guys! It's so much fun planning and shopping for chick supplies:) I can't believe it's only a month away now!! Seems like I've been waiting forever. I think I understand this thing called Chicken Math now, too..
