Thanksgiving Hatch- Anyone want to join in?

Jen4, that baby is from the egg that wasn't going to hatch. I found him in the corner in my laundry room in a make shift nest made of drier lint that the hen dug out of my trash can. The egg was between one and two weeks old. The air cell was already big. It was not in the cleanest of environments. I took the egg in and candled. The shell was very porous. All those are very bad signs to start with

I didn't want to throw the egg out, but I didn't want to put it in the fridge either (it was awfully close to Here Kitty Kitty's litter box). I put the egg in the incubator. It went in about the same time the duck eggs did. It was probably the only time I was slightly dismayed to see a chick forming, since I knew he'd have no playmates for at least a week. I joined the "Pre Thanksgiving Hatch" and in the last three days, moved him into the Little Giant with the leghorns which were too late arriving for this hatch. I did not, strictly speaking, lock down. He hatched anyway and is a perfect little love. He mixes with the youngest older chicks during the day and goes into a plastic Kritter Keeper at night.

Well hes really cute and what a great story to tell... wishing him some hatchmates very soon

Me too. Well, if he can wait *another* week, there will be some standard leghorns hopefully. He is spending the night with the duckling tonight, but I'm not so sure about doing that for too long. That duckling is going to grow a lot faster than a little bantam chick.

I went to remove the turner and lockdown this afternoon, and THERE WAS A CHICK! Very happily riding in the turner and peeping like mad. He was already dry! Must have hatched this morning. Not due until Thurs! A baby delaware.

lol... just shows that sometimes lockdown isn't as big of a deal... obviously he thought conditions were just right to come out and go for a carnival ride..

grats....

Busy day here! I heard some scratching on the wire in the bator, and when I went to look, a chick had it's wing out of the egg! Not the egg that was pipped, either! It hatched in about an hour. Shortly after that, one hatched in about an hour as well! I couldn't believe how quick they were! A third chick just hatched about 10 minutes ago!! There's still another pipped egg too! 3 down, 10 to go! And of course, my heat lamp bulb broke, so I've got a regular bulb in the lamp and a heating pad under the chicks! Here are some pics:

Blondie was the first to hatch, then the red one.

And the newest arrival!

My sister and her family should be arriving from NC in about an hour. I don't mind staying up so I can keep checking on the bator.

Oh, and I love the idea of burlap in the bator! I'm going to do that next time!!

Aww, thank you! I love my aquara-brooder - I get such a kick being able to watch the chickies do their little chickie things. Of course, my Halloween nine outgrew it in, like, a week and a half, but it was great while it lasted. And I still get to watch 'em - new bigger boxbrooder is right on the floor next to my desk. Oh, and huge congrats on Linty! What a great story...

aggie - GREAT pics, sweet babies! I gotta stop lurking this thread - it's making me want to go buy some eggs....
