Thanksgiving Hatch- Anyone want to join in?

I have to confess. I helped one of mine out of her shell this morning. I fully expected her to be out when I woke up today, and she wasn't. She didn't seem positioined right and wasn't able to zip the shell all the way around, she was only able to make a hole in one spot. It was a big hole and I could see that there was no yolk sac or anything left, she just couldn't get that shell to give way. I chipped a little away and waited. Then I chipped some more and pulled the halves of the eggs apart a little and she made it out on her own. She was positioned poorly and her little neck was very bent and her feet really curled up, but after several attempts at walking, she's doing just fine now!

I have a second one that I may have to do the same for. Looks to be in the same position and having trouble getting out. Its been that way since last night too. I think these two may have developed too quickly and were too big for their shells and didn't have enough room to turn around inside the shell.

i have one pipped, i think it pipped about 4 hours ago.. hasn't done much since.. and i don't hear any noises coming out of them.. but i feel better about no noise knowing at least one pipped... and it was one i had a ? on.. i didn't htink it would hatch...

Congrats!!!

Not having to do with the hatch, but this morning I went to the barn to let out the chickens and goats and feed the young birds out there. When my guy goes, he doesn't understand why I have a hard time with it. Today, I realized what was wrong. You see, HE has no problem up at the barn.

He said not to go in the right hand door, to keep the chicks from rushing the door. I sedately walked in the left hand door, let the goats and roosters out into the barn yard to play. Three chicks went outside, but immediately came back. I shut the side door and went to leave. A crowd of chicks were running around near my feet (and on my feet). I couldn't leave through the front left door.

I tried making Godzilla noises and proclaiming KFC at the top of my voice. Nothing would frighten them away from me and the door. I finally went out the side door, into the barn yard, trailing chicks behind me all the way down the hill. When I came back with the feeders, about 5 had slipped outside the fence. I picked them up and tucked them in the barn. I saw two others down the hill. I went to get them. They ran to me and almost hopped into my hands.

I don't have a beak (my nose is fairly human seeming). I lack feathers, wings, and claws. Yet, somehow, I am a Momma Hen.

It ALIVE!!!!! Finally our first baby has arrived. I am so excited and relieved. I even caught the actual coming out of the egg on video. Here is a picture of my new little silkie baby. It came from a b/b/s egg. Can anyone tell what color it will be?
