Thanksgiving Hatch- Anyone want to join in?

newduckie
Well, sad to say I ended up with my first hatch a zero percent hatch. NOTHING!!!

Awww man... sorry. I see that your leaving them in, I would too, maybe they just need alittle longer or maybe they just werent fertile?

i just talked to the friend who had them pip on the counter, he siad that would have been day 24... so 3 days late.... give them time and cross your fingers....

my egg that i thought "pipped".... it had been 8 hours.. so i took my little needletype too thing and went to po back a bit of that shell to make sure he could breathe... that the membrane had broken enough when he pipped....
well looks like it wasn't a true pip... his head wasn't anywhere near the pip... but his "elbow" was... i think he popped the shell open trying to position, and then gave p.... this guy was huge... took up the entire egg... no room at all.... the last batch there was a little space left in the egg... you could tell when you watched them hatching.. this guys had nothing....
so still keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow... that will be day 22...

I have 11 sweet little Delaware chicks hatched out! Two are having a little trouble, but looking better all the time. Most of them are huge and spunky.
I don't think I will Holiday hatch again. Boy there is so much going on and it is hard to get it all done right. But it was fun and I am so glad that my babies are here.

Congrats everyone who has little ones and sorry for those who didn't this time.

Well I started with 23 eggs....Only 2 have hatched. I had set them late in the day on Nov 6th. I will leave them in there for another day or two, but I am not holding out much hope. I have 2 silkies now. One white and one that came from a B/B/S egg, but appears to be white as well. I guess the eggs may have been mislabled. Will they be able to keep each other warm enough with only 2 of them in the brooder. I put a little stuffed animal in there with them and they are snuggled up to it right now. They seem fine. But now I will be losing sleep over these to being warm enough at night instead of being worried about what's happening in the bator! LOL

Congratulations to everyone on their hatches!

update this morning: i have 16 chicks hatched. 7 WLxRIR, 2 OEGBxRIR, 5 seramas with 2 more pipped, and 2 silkies with 1 more pipped. waiting for 3 more seramas to pip. I am now on day 23.

Well I've got 8 out of the 11 that went into lockdown. 6 are in the brooder and 2 still in the bator. I'm still waiting to see any signs of life from the last three eggs. I won't give up on them yet, but I'm pleased with 8 out of 11 and everyone is healthy and strong!

I candled my remaining three eggs and they are not going to hatch. I think they died a few days ago, perhaps right around or before lockdown, but it was too hard to tell at lockdown so I kept them in the bator.

Keep a thermometer in the brooder and watch the temp, don't let it go below 90. Be careful that stuffed animal doesn't catch fire if you have to have the heat lamp really low! You could put them in a smaller box for now to hold in the heat. If they are huddling together directly under the lamp bulb, they are cold. If they are moving around and spreading out a bit they're fine. If they are at the outermost edges of the heat lamps beam and they are lying on their bellies with wings spread out, they are too warm.

Good luck with the remainder of your eggs and your two babies!

Well I had pretty much given up hope on the remaing eggs in the bator. But we decided to give them a couple more days and now I am hearing chirpping! No movement really but I can hear someone in there.
