This is the recipe for a cranberry salad I make every year that is simple, pretty, and everyone loves it. Take a large box of raspberry jello. Dissolve it in two cups boiling water. Put it in a rectangular pan. One of those 9 X 13 or somesuch. Stir in one can of whole berry cranberry sauce. Mix well. Dump in one can of crushed pineapple and mix to blend. Then stir in one cup of port or burgundy wine. Add a half cup or so of crushed walnuts if you have them handy and want to. Chill. Allow to set until hard. Then mix together 8 oz cream cheese and 8 oz sour cream until smooth. Spread over the top of the jello with a rubber spatula and allow to set at least overnight. BTW, crushed pineapple comes in two size cans both about two cups. Use the smaller size. The one that is the same size as the cranberry sauce usually comes in. If you use the larger size cut back on the water you use to dissolve the jello by about half a cup or it will not set up hard enough. To serve, cut in squares and put on a salad plate on a leaf of lettuce if you want.

How about some deviled eggs? Always a favorite at our house.

Boil up your eggs not to long or you'll have a hard time getting the shells off. Let them cool down. Rinse under cold water while peeling the shells so they come off nicely.

Cut eggs in half long ways and take out the yokes and place in a med size bowl.

Mix a couple tablespoons of mayo
2 squirts of mustard
A pinch or 2 of sugar to taste.
Couple pinches of pepper.

Whip all above ingredients with a fork until all the lumps and clumps are fluffy.

Fill eggs with a teaspoon

Sprinkle with Paprika as a garnish but you dont have to use it. (we dont)

Cover and put in the fridge until used. You can also make these the night before.

~~My thoughts and prayer are with your father and your family. Enjoy Thanksgiving and Im sure your dinner will be a great success!!!!

MaggieRae: I won't make any menu suggestions or recipes, because it looks like you are getting some great ideas here! I just want to say I think you're going to do a great job. You've got Dad to worry about but you're going at this with a great attitude. Just remember if you get pinched for time or energy, there's no crime in buying pre-made pies or whatever you want.

Enjoy your dinner, girl! Then put your feet up and don't forget to take everybody's help with the clean up.

Thanks BridgeTea and I have all of those ingredients so I guess I'm trying that out!
Thanks! I really appreciate y'alls help...

I found this turkey recipe and it looks really easy. I've never cooked a turkey before... Do y'all think this will work?

1 (12 pound) whole turkey
6 tablespoons butter, divided
4 cups warm water
3 tablespoons chicken bouillon
2 tablespoons dried parsley
2 tablespoons dried minced onion
2 tablespoons seasoning salt
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Rinse and wash turkey. Discard the giblets, or add to pan if they are anyone's favorites.
Place turkey in a Dutch oven or roasting pan. Separate the skin over the breast to make little pockets. Put 3 tablespoons of the butter on both sides between the skin and breast meat. This makes for very juicy breast meat.
In a medium bowl, combine the water with the bouillon. Sprinkle in the parsley and minced onion. Pour over the top of the turkey. Sprinkle seasoning salt over the turkey.
Cover with foil, and bake in the preheated oven 3 1/2 to 4 hours, until the internal temperature of the turkey reaches 180 degrees F (80 degrees C). For the last 45 minutes or so, remove the foil so the turkey will brown nicely.

also, resist the tempation to open your oven and "check on the turkey." don't worry, it's cooking in there. only open the oven to take the foil off and then check the temperature.

opening the oven releases heat and cools down the oven thus increasing cooking time.

in my opinion, birds that are wrapped and left alone to cook always turn out better than birds that are basted every 15 minutes mostly because with all the heat escaping and the longer cooking time, the bird has more time to dry out.

by covering the roasting pan with foil (as your recipe states) or using one of those plastic roasting bags and sealing it all up, the broth or water you add bastes the turkey with steam throughout most of the cooking process.

one more tip not to forget, LET IT REST!!! after it is cooked and out of the oven and BEFORE you carve it, loosely tent it with foil and WAIT at least 20 minutes. this is a good time to deglaze the pan and make gravy out of the drippings. cooking brings the turkey's natural juices to the surface of the meat. allowing it to rest lets the juices redistribute throughout the whole bird.
