i'm a new chicken owner from Queens, NY. i have one Silkie and two Polish (as of right now) in my backyard since about June. i've been lurking for a while because i wanted to wait for my first egg before i joined BYC.....but that seems like it's a long way off
unlike alot of cityslickers, however, i know you don't need a rooster for eggs, that chickens can withstand the cold, and that Silkies are in fact a chicken
this is in part due to my enthusiastic (obsessive) searches on BYC these past few months and my parents' recollections about their own chickens growing up.
y'know how there are cat people and dog people? well, i'm neither. i've discovered that i am a chicken person
