makes me chase her in circles around the coop and run. making a fool of me.
One of our Red Star hens used to escape everyday. Until we found out how she was escaping. She was going out into the run, jumping up onto a perch that we put out for them, and managed to fit under a loose flap of the covering over the run. So we tied down the loose flap and she hasn't escaped again.
Chickens can be very sneaky and clever...
We had one that was flying out over the top of the run. We had taken off the mesh that had been there since we built the run and replaced it with wood slats so that a vine could grow up there. There was one big gap near the coop at first. Put another board there and then a second and she was still getting out. Finally clipped a wing and she hasn't gotten out since.
I've got one sussex that is always the last one to go in, hides her eggs, and likes to free-range in the road. We do the "run around the coop" every night.
