Ok... weird thing... embryo like... maybe 2” long, pink, fleshy blob found in nest box today. My girls roam under trees, all over pasture. Would they pick up up lost fetal squirrel or other thing and put it in the box. I don’t want to be gross, but’s it was still squishy ... the girls have caught and eaten small birds, mice, etc. but this was not damaged. So weird.

Not gross at all! Did you get a picture??? Could it have been a shell-less egg?

A picture? This sounds like a very good topic!:goodpost::sick
I kind of sliced it with a shovel, And it was juicy... definitely a fleshy material. Didn’t touch with my hands, so... I will see if it is around in morning for a pic. I half buried it in ground

Looking around web and learned squirrels eat eggs... maybe a mama squirrel came to get an egg and aborted a fetus... gonna check more tomorrow

No....they would eat it.
Chances are it was a 'lash egg',
which is not an egg at all but congealed pus from in internal infection.
Next time, if there is one....
...take a pic, then cut it in half with a knife(wear gloves if you must) and take more pics.

I can’t find it in the dirt this morning to get pictures, but google shows Lash eggs, and some look very similar. Sounds ominous as well. Should I quarantine each hen for a day to see if she isn’t laying properly, try to single out a sick Hen or let it be
