What a pretty bunch of ladies they are! I wanna rescue some, too. I need to get coops built all over my yard so I can be ready for hens looking for homes..... lol
Good job, although, I would have loved to hve seen a pic of your DH driving with them. I have a mental picture that maks me giggle. Flying feathers everywhere!

Wow! That would be great to share with some elementary school kids to instill a little knowledge of where food comes from and how to treat animals. My coworkers think I'm nutso when I tell them that chickens actually do have personalities and are clean when they are allowed to be birds and not machines. Sniff..that story made me wanna cry. Shout out to ya, girl!

Thanks everyone for the too kind words.

I have to say they have been a pleasure to have, they have paid me back and then some. As there has been some renewed interest in the thread, I will take some new pics and post them tomorrow.

BorderKelpie: I think a few people have had a giggle at that mental image!

In large production barns. A well-known farming family in our town does this. They get shipments of hundreds of thousands of chicks, raise them in cages until about 17 weeks of age, then they are shipped to factory farms. I've seen the barn they are kept and it is huge. I was little at the time and I don't remember the conditions that the birds were kept in.
