When I began kindergarten in the early 80’s, I had just finished all the shots needed for public school, and was soon diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. I don’t really remember much besides going to a lot of doctors, specialists, and hospitals. Eventually the symptoms began to fade, but I have a mild facial imbalance (a bit droopy on left side), and I was left completely deaf on the left side. The doctors all swore it had no cause, it wasn’t the vaccines or anything else they could find. There was nothing wrong with me that they could find, but my face looked like it was melting on one side.
When some people began getting the covid vaccine and developed Bell’s palsy, it really lit a light bulb over my head. Then people started getting other symptoms, healthy athletes in their prime having heart attacks, dizzyness, pain and other issues. It’s a hard decision. I personally won’t be getting the shot because I can’t risk losing the hearing in my other ear and becoming deaf, I don’t have underlying medical conditions that put me at high risk of covid death, and I’ve weighed the risks of both sides. My children will not be getting the vaccine until we see the results over time. Most vaccines and medications go thru years of testing before being given to the masses, and I feel like the corners cut in the testing phase might bite us in the butt later on.
I don’t fault anyone else for making their own decisions, especially people with conditions that put them at higher risk from covid, but tbh I have a family member who weighs over 400 pounds, they talk all the time about how at risk they are due to their weight, but covid has been happening for over a year and they have made no effort to lose weight or exercise and eat better, even though they had plenty of extra free time to do so, so why should I risk serious illness so they can feel safer being around me? My feeling is that everyone who wants it should get it, everyone who doesn’t want it should not, but now they’re talking about needing vax cards to travel and shop. I’m worried that in 10 years I’ll be seeing those lawyer commercials that say “did you or a loved one suffer severe or life threatening side effects from the covid vaccine? Call our offices now for a free consultation...”
