Okay - It's ON! Just cranked up the Nurture Right 360 with fifteen Nankin Bantams and seven Porcelain D'Uccles. I filled the 'bator completely though, for the first time. Our test run only had eight. Many of these potential chicklets are from young pullets, just a month or so into laying, so a lot of the eggs are VERY tiny. If I get six out of this batch, I'll be happy. Not thrilled ... but happy!

And so "It Begins!" Fingers crossed!

:fl :fl :fl :fl :fl

Oh - and a neat ps ... Could be we have a couple of broodies who started just this morning. Two of my younger girls are currently fluffed up and giving me what passes for a stink eye. This is SO EGG-citing!
:wee

My 7 Easter-egger eggs are in as of noon! Just in time to find out that the built-in turner in my Ovation isn't working. :he Guess I'm turning by hand for now.

Oh, yes, and if anyone has any recommendations for a candler that can see through green egg shells, but won't break the bank, I'm all ears! It was a nightmare trying to find their air cells with my regular flashlight! :th

If you're going to put pre-incubated eggs under her, don't wait too long. You don't want her to give up too soon, thinking she's been sitting too long. Most hens seem to wait at least a few days to make sure, but I don't think mine have ever gone a week longer. Maybe someone who knows more can chime in, here?
If your broody abandons her nest early, like my daffy Miss Piggy tends to do, you can move them to the incubator if you catch them early. I've actually had pretty good luck doing that with Piggy's eggs. Even if she doesn't abandon them, I take them a few days early. She's a good broody, but when those nasty little fuzzy things start breaking her eggs, she turns "chickicidal!"

:lauHilarious! I'm sorry, not that killing the chicks is funny, but when those nasty little fuzzy things start breaking her eggs:lau

Candlers are not expensive on Amazon. Mine plugs into the wall, no batteries, and I think it was $15 ish. I figure I'm going to use it so it was worth it.

Thanks, I will take a look. I only mentioned not breaking the bank because when I looked for posts about candlers for green eggs, a lot of people were recommending these high-powered rechargeable flashlights for $80+. :th My regular flashlight works great for all other egg colors, but these green ones are so hard to see through!

One of my EE girls laid another egg about half an hour ago, so I went ahead and added it to my EHAL batch. So, whoever is tallying the number of eggs set, make that 8 eggs for me, not 7.
