My business is doing pretty well actually. China has been good for me. Oh wait you meant bad economic climate. Nevermind.
mom'sfolly :

And off we go....

What do you think is the cause of the current economic climate????

Teenage immigrant welfare mothers on drugs*?
Bankers?
Obama?
Congress?
Harry Reid?
Ben Bernanke?
Mitt Romney?
Eric Cantor?
The housing bubble?
the loss of American manufacturing
China?
over-regulation?
under-regulation?
Corporate greed?
the Tarp Bailout?
Minimum wage?
too many unions?
the lack of unions?

*thank you Austin Lounge Lizards

I got a email the other day. It was in Chinese but I thought it was in Spanish. So I emailed them back saying sorry I dont speak Spanish. They said its not Spanish its Chinese. And they were asking me to buy football jerseys. So how did a Chinese person get my email. Now if it was made in America I would be happy but Chinese. NO!

O.o what should I say to her? Instead of no?

mom'sfolly :

I'm not sure what Spanish speakers at the social security office has to do with the economy. You can only get social security if you have paid into the system, and you can only pay into the system if you are a legal resident or citizen. If you are working on a phony SSN, that number is being credited for the amount you are paying into the system.

I also don't know what Mexican nationals going to American hospitals has to do with economy or what workers speaking Spanish on the job has to do with the dismal state of the economy.

As for busloads of people coming into this country to shop, this only helps our economy.

It isn't that difficult to get SS illegally. But, lets do the math: check out your local hospital and find out how much it costs to stay one night. What is the cost for a peditrician? A Dr? whats the breakdown of all the meds? Charge extra for phone or tv? I worked as a volunteer in a pregnancy crisis center. We never turned anyone down, which is good. But we were told to share with all the new moms to be whom were/are here illegally to wait until labor starts then get the the hospital. By law, they cannot be turned away. So the babies have all the benefits from the government, and because they are classified as US kids, they automatically get a social security card. Their mom's get government aide to make sure they stay healthy, more medical benis, are able to qualify for HUD, get discounts on utilities.

Add it up, multiply it and add the cost of free breakfasts and lunches on top of that, and tell me, who pays for it while our children do without when our jobs are cut back?

But that has been going on long before the current economic state, and the amount spent on that series of situations is dwarfed by other things not even mentioned (um, the wars going on, maybe?). When times get tough, all the things that made people grumble when times were good suddenly get a spotlight shone on them, as if that's what caused the bad times. Again, I say, it reminds me a lot of what went on after WWI in Germany.

Because there's more than one thing at a time that needs worried about. And the econemy was bad and people were worried about it way before the Japan thing.

I think it important that we look at all the factors without fingerpointing or suggesting we take sides. If we are all in this together, we can all be part of a solution, including demanding to be kept in the loop, demanding transparency, and demanding a voice.

Can the 30's type of problems occur now? Yes, but not because of the same things. We had a war where people learned to give big time. We had the Dust Bowl which decimated not just crops and livestock, but left families in need of looking for work without having the ability to recover the land...also during the end of the war, the awful flu blew through, not caring where people came from, swiftly killing thousands. After the war, there was a scramble to help recover, promises to assist other countries to rebuild, and those whim came back home needed employment. With the country hunkering down to heal, there wasn't much out there. Speculation panicked, was calmed, nerves jangled. We mistakenly thought ourselves invincible, in spite of what reality showed. For those whom trusted not to take their money and hide it, it disappeared come Black Friday.

But times are different now. Instead of dustbowls, we have electronics hooked to accounts, and trust politicians more than weathermen. I heard on the news this morning of a super cookie which does not delete when all others are removed. It can have access to everything in your computer. To render us helpless, one may use many modern means without leaving a room.

On the upside, from what I've heard, during the 30s, nothing went to waste. There was respect for the elderly, families gathered close unless someone had to travel in looking for employment. People shared. They did without.
