Last week I was in line at the grocery store. My cart had items like ground beef, dry beans, rice, you know stuff to stretch the dollar. The person in line in front of me had shrimp, lobster, steaks. When I see them pay with their food stamps it burned me up.

This is a teeny part of the whole picture as to why this county is in trouble.

They can and do get SSI for a lot of reasons, the kids, "disabled" disadvantaged, the list would surprise you. SS is not just for retirement.
mom'sfolly :

I'm not sure what Spanish speakers at the social security office has to do with the economy. You can only get social security if you have paid into the system, and you can only pay into the system if you are a legal resident or citizen. If you are working on a phony SSN, that number is being credited for the amount you are paying into the system.

I also don't know what Mexican nationals going to American hospitals has to do with economy or what workers speaking Spanish on the job has to do with the dismal state of the economy.

As for busloads of people coming into this country to shop, this only helps our economy.

This is what I meant about people seizing the opportunity of misfortune to try and forward their own crusades of scapegoating (the main vehicle driving Hitler into power). Thank you for saying it in a funnier way than I could have.

As to the original post of "back to the 30s"....yes, I do believe it is possible. Maybe not PROBABLE, but possible.

Let's not waste time and energy pointing fingers
Let's just get ready for what we see coming in the future

Chickens is great. But for how long can your family survive on chicken eggs when you live in the suburbs or in the city.
Country folk have the greatest chance of making it thru. We should all think about that.

Also, I read something funny the other day.

"If gold is too expensive for you to buy, consider lead."

can't help but smile
