I've never hatched in a Genesis, so I can't comment on that. I have hatched in that other plastic one, though. It's not as bad as the R-Com 20 to clean, but it's still a bit of a pain, especially as the area above the fan is coated in oil.I have been hatching in a Genesis 1588 for a year and a half now. No fluff problems. I spray with an air duster every couple of hatches.
The still air is preferred just for the cleaning. I have a R-Com 20 also and there are bits I can't get to. I can see they're full of fluff, but I can't get it out and it bugs me lol. When I put eggs of mixed origins, I wash them all, so I like to have a sterile environment to incubate them in. If the bator is blowing dirty air around, it can't be good. I also have a cabinet incubator and have the same problem. I can't get behind the fan and the electronics aren't hermetically sealed, so they are covered in fluff and I don't feel like wiping a circuit board down with a cloth. I wouldn't know what to do if I broke something.I had been reading that some people prefer still-air for hatching. Does one work better, or is the still-air preferred just for the fan cleaning reason?
Here in the UK, I only needed to put water in the middle ring. For hatching, I didn't think it got humid enough with water in the outer ring, so I filled the bottom right up to the holes and put a dishcloth on the tray next to the eggs. I then injected water onto this through the little vent hole in the top.I have the second one and manually turned the eggs, I only hatched 12 eggs but 9/12 hatched.. It was my first time hatching and was happy with the result!
I'd recommend turning it on a few days before to get the humidity stable as it took me a bit to figure out how much water to add.
I am in Australia and only paid $60 aud for mine
