Quote: If they are puffed up, I would get some Corid. You mix it in their water, but at this stage, you will have to force them to drink it by dribbling it on their beak or dipping their beaks in it like when they were babies.

If it is coccidiosis, it can kill them within a couple days if left untreated.
I hate medicating chickens..however in this instance (I figured you do not cull for disease or illness) I agree with corid in the water for everyone. I never recommend medicated feed. So someone else will have to tell you about that. I feed FF, sunshine, exercises, free range in a field of kale, Oregano, dill, spinach, rosemary, garlic, pumpkin, squash, cucumbers and hot red peppers. A few others too.
They were both dead when I got home.

Can I get the corid from TSC? I don't need anyone else dead. I usually don't medicate, I am making batch of FF tonight. I really don't know what else What is weird is they were both in different pens, the mistake I made was to move the Araucana in with the CCL, thinking it was being bullied by the other chicks and not eating enough, that is when the CCL got sick, she only showed signs for 1 day, and was still eating early evening yesterday by night fall she looked bad and that is when I moved her. Are they too young for rooster booster?
I am so sorry..

Look in your coops where they are..if you smell something off and not normal you need to corid the rest. I know nothing about rooster booster.. I think corid is found at TSC and Farm and Fleet, feed stores etc. It is for cocci and used in all livestock. I would not use it unless you think you might have it..you can tell by an off smell. Blood in stools is not always evident, the smell is. I am so sorry I am glad you are doing an autopsy. It will answer some questions for you. it might be the reason you are having egg laying issues too. Any age bird or animal can get cocci..exposure is the only strong hold against it. Building ammunities...

I don't think there is an off smell in their room. I don't know, I wonder if it could be something in the straw I'm using. I saw the Corid and using something for cows worries me a bit. I never medicate. Will FF work. I don't think I will be able to get a necropsy done before Monday.

I have never had a problem with my birds, Have 2 that are 4 years old and 1 that is 3 years old, they are as old as I have been raising birds. I never medicated, and have never had a problem. Could they get worms not being on the ground? Can they die from Vitamin deficiencies? I think I'm going to go and scrub all the feeders and waters with bleach and dose everyone with B12. The B12 has K in it also.

I have never had to cull for disease or illness, only injuries, I've never had sick birds and if I did I would watch them, give them vitamins and if the made it great, but I don't give antibiotics, I feel that will make them a weaker birds and they will always be sick. Usually the chicks are outside in the coop by 6 to 8 weeks, I did do it this time because I had them in the garage and my two turkeys have been going in the coop at night on extremely cold nights ( they usually like to roost in the trees) I feel horrible now. I should have put them out, my BF told me not to hatch during the winter, but I get bored and like it.

Mstricer, I keep a bag of Corrid powder handy to dose everyone when I suspect an outbreak. Before i did this, I lost ten, 10week old chicks in two days and an adult hen within four days of a particularly nasty outbreak. I was focussed on trying to save the rest of the chicks and didn't even notice the hen was sick until too late.

I had given the chicks medicated feed as I always do, but "forgot" they need it once they hit the ground. I'd kept them on it for eight weeks, usually by then the chicks are on the ground (out of the brooder) for two weeks or so. That batch didn't have a grow out coop ready for them until ten weeks and by then they didn't have medicated feed to help build their immunity. Really stupid on my part.

Now I also put soil and grass into their brooder (in addition to giving them medicated feed) and continue to feed them medicated feed during their segregation/integration period in their grow out coop. Plus keep Corrid on hand, just in case. I buy it at the feed store.

I was going to suggest the B12 with K. I'm so sorry about your birds. I use Oxine and love it. Goes a long way, but bleach is good. Just so sad for you right now and I hope you've caught it early.
