we stopped by lowes and got paint while we were there, hopefully thats the most we will spend other than the siding.

we expect it to coast somewhere around 300, not counting the pond (which we intend to look nice), the run area (they will free range but for days that we wont be home much and after I see a predator i would need it) all in all i expect it all to cost $1000..

You don't want to know what my new coop cost! I'll tell you all anyway! Bought a prefab 8x12 shed. Came unassembled & didn't have the time to put it together. So the contractor renovating our human home built it for us in one day! All in all, almost $2,000! But hey, it was quick & professionally done. He even used left over shingles from our house roof to put on coop. I want one more coop, but it sure won't be done that way again!

You people are evil, evil I tell you!

A year ago I was waiting for my first 15 chicks to arrive. Now I have 20 chickens, only two of those original, have a couple dozen in the incubator, a bunch coming for this hatch a long, and am planning new coops.

Evil, evil I say.

Thanks!

I prefer to call it "support".

See how supportive we are of each others chicken addictions?

You obviously haven't seen my signature line.

Okay ladies, you're both making me very nervous as I am setting both Cochins and Barnevelders for this Hatch-A-Long. Is there something I should know in particular about either breed?

I'm setting barnevelders too.

Nothing in particular about the breed - I've had a series of bad luck is all. Predators were an issue my first year with them - they aren't good flyers, so they aren't as good at getting away. This year, I lost both my cockerels I was growing out for breeding. One was a freak leg injury that never improved and I had to put him down. And the other got a massive infection and his jaw was rotting out. I sent him off for necropsy to be sure it wasn't anything contagious. He had "embedded plant material" that caused a massive infection and a fissure in his jaw.

I've got blue barnevelders growing out, so I will be keeping a couple of those boys. And I'll be hatching more pure barnevelders for this hatch and hopefully keeping a boy from the hatch too.

My guess is 8492

I feel cheap. My Paint almost always comes from the mistint and close outs. Except for the gallon I got at the local discount outlet. $7 a gallon for barn red (although the can said blue)
