Look at this little sizzle chick go! Something tells me it's going to be a bit of a handful....LOL
That's so cool! Add me to the list that wishes she could candle so clearly!
Woohoo! Got three sassy fat babies last night! They are Marans

.
This is my favorite. I have already named him Booberry

All three together!
Super cute!
Yeah that was the dryer, haha. I use a flashlight with a high number of lumens...I can't remember how many, maybe 65? I also have one with 100+ lumens but that is almost TOO bright.

Unfortunately I woke up this morning and incubator was off....the outlet stopped working for whatever reason. Luckily I had two waterbottles in there to act as a heat sink, but the water wiggler temp was down to about 95. I moved it to a new room and it's warming up. I was afraid the incubator itself had died and I was freaking out a bit.
Oh dear! I bet, though, that they'll be ok. At least I hope so!

Does anyone know why you can't (or rather shouldn't) use iodized salt to calibrate a humidity gauge? I'm curious and that's the only kind of salt I have.
I tried that way and then used rock salt and then Kosher. The rock and Kosher gave me the same readings, the table salt read lower. You can get rock or Kosher for about a buck or just over for a box.

Awwwww   CONGRATS sweetness!!
which thread?
so what does the horoscope say!  I sent 16 into lockdown this am! Good luck!
Humidity can drive you nuts cant it! But hygros and thermometers more so!

Just remember humidity is NOT A SET NUMBER, you need it YES! However, you use it to your advantage and that is why we candle on days 7,10,14,18 TO WATCH and pencil mark the growth of the air cells and we control our humidity so that we achieve our correct air cell size which is the simple way to gage % loss in the egg.  OR you can weigh your entire rack at the begining 7,10,14,18 and regulate humitiy by seeing how much or little % is lost.

Hatching horoscope on set day feb 13th
Possibilities are endless and eggs will be fruitful. Set aplenty.

Hatching horoscope on lockdown, march 2
Beware of dry weather, disappointment possible

Lol

It's getting so close to get my eggs and for everyone to set their eggs for the hatch a long! :) so exciting! This will be my first time and I'm hoping for a good hatch but don't have my hopes set to high... So I wont let myself down to much if its a flop. I'm finding the locals are starting to come out a lot now on Craigslist with chicks and eggs, so tempting! Especially the buff orpingtons and ees! Just depends on this hatch though, we only have room for around 10ish at this time until we add to the run this summer! ;)

Collecting my eggs to set on Saturday. I believe my one SFH pullet starting laying just in time for the Easter Hatch A Long! I'm so excited. I have 2 dozen eggs so far!

Don't worry! I think worry itself can mess up a hatch. Don't over think. Hatching is not so complicated as it would seem. Good eggs, decent humidity and stable temps are the perfect combo for a great hatch. Go in with great expectations! You'll do fine.

This makes so much sense to me. Science is so cool

Where do you get Jap eggs from?? I'm looking all over and trying to find black tailed buffs, but man are they hard to find.

Don't you mean the "bawk" side?

Interesting. I wonder if it has something to do with the iodine?
