DH is building me a cabinet incubator!! Not a monster, but it will hold 2 turners on one shelf, so that's like 80ish eggs!! There's a top shelf too, if I wanted to go crazy and put double the eggs in. I'm not going to though, that's my hatcher shelf. I must admit that I was leery at first, but now that I see it holding temp. and that beautiful light bulb going on and off, I'm getting excited! I plan on running it for a week or so, to be sure it's working well, after that do you think it would hurt to quickly pull my turner out of the LG and pop it in the new one?

How lucky are you?! They say to do a test run with inexpensive eggs first time with a new bator (although I never do!). Can we see pics?

When they come to do NPIP do they look at what you have your birds in ect? I've been thinking about it but I'm afraid they'd say something about how my birds are housed. I have the majority of my birds in Round or dome shaped pens made out of hog panaling. And my larger flock of EE's is in a chain link dog pen about 10'x10'x6'.

When a tester comes to your house, they are supposed to assess the overall health of the flock as well as drawing the blood on specific birds. They really don't care what you house in, and may even give you tips for better ventilation, ect. The vets that have been at my place have always been helpful -I believe these guys have 'seen it all', so as long as your birds have access to clean water, ect, you should be fine.

Good morning everybody!!! This was 3 weeks ago at my place & now everything is melting! Winter is just a bit more bearable here, when you can see the natural beauty of it!
That's my coop up there, there's a smaller one tucked back there, but its abandoned. Will be building a new one on top of the old foundation. Yay!
My LG is holding on to temp & humidity very well these few days. Hope it keeps until lockdown. Then things get crazy trying to get humidity up. Including me! LOL! Will candle later today. Weeeeeee!

If I have a broody run off in the middle of summer she always brings more pullets back than cockerels. Expecially when it's between 105 and 115 here.

Geez I forgot why I came in!!

The youngsters gave me one egg today. They'll probably start laying like crazy after this, but I only had 10 to set today. The site won't let me post the pic though

me too Was ready to give up on my barred olive eggers. I have 2 ladies that layer the most beautiful olive eggs. F1s they are in with a cuckoo roo It will be interesting to see the eggs from the f2s pullets if I get some.. I find I like the f1s best... there sister barred pea comb fluffy cheeked lays and brown egg. almost took her to the sale Monday. (brain storm) I put her in with the Ameruacana roos. her egg will be easy to find so more olives eggs down the road..

Yes, they're Coturnix.

Haven't been to bed yet and I have so much to do not only at home but away from home. 5:30 and I'm praying I can be up as close to 9 as possible. That's 9am not pm..

Took my girls on a picnic lunch and hike up the North Shore today (Lake Superior). Cold and windy but beautiful! Ate our sandwiches in the old CCC stone shelter with our mittens on. If it is going to STILL be winter and Spring doesn't look likely anytime soon, I figured we might as well get out and enjoy a little of the winter beauty that we live in. Something to do while waiting for eggs to incubate.
