I am beside myself. I have 51 eggs in 2 LG's. One LG has a tuner and fan the other is still. The one with the turner reads 100 in one corner and 94 in the other. I can actually feel the difference in temp of the eggs. This is only the fourth time I have used the LG. I see some veining in a few eggs from different areas. It seems the eggs in the still air are doing better. I have FOUR new accurite therms...I don't know what else to do...Does anyone ever have this much trouble with an LG? I want to cry.

BigPoppy & I finally set the last of our eggs today. Here is what we set:

BigPoppy set:
4 duck
6 chicken
9 coturnix quail
6 bw/TN red quail

TOTAL 25 eggs

I set:
5 duck
6 chicken
9 Coturnix quail
6 bw/TN red quail

TOTAL 26 eggs

Both bators are running with staggered hatches & I had to cut the extra eggs off of the pix. You can still see the edge of 1 carton in BigPoppy's pic but those aren't for this hatch.

Are you sure all the thermometers are reading the same? It doesn't make a lot of sense that an incubator with fan would have such variance.

If your certain of the temp readings I'd just put most of the eggs in the still air and keep the remaining eggs in the half of of incubator with fan that is reading correct temperature. You can move the turner to the still air. I'm sure you know still air incubation is done at 101-102F at top of eggs reading.

It's still early in this incubation so getting things right now will go a long way.

I have this problem with my still air bators when I tilt the entire bator instead of the cartons or hand turning the eggs. 1 is REALLY bad & cooks the eggs if you aren't really watchful. (I no longer tilt this bator, it's all hand-turned now & holds steady at 100F perfectly.) If you are tilting the bator that may be the problem. If not, it sounds like maybe your heating coil is going & isn't heating evenly across the whole bator.

Air circulation..

try placing the LG on low inverted bowls on each corner. Make sure it is sturdy and check in 24 hours.

You can also try:

Use old cardboard and make a surround with no top and no bottom. Make sure you have room around the edge for easy removal and air flow. I like to use a good 4 inches all around it. Keep the box out of the sun. Normally I tape cardboard all along the edges of three sides of a card table and slide the LG inside. The sides are 6 inches high of cardboard. This helped with temp control in my humidity environment. I never added water in the bottom. I used the exterior environment to control humidity by placing glasses of water along the edges of my cardboard surround.

I have now purchased a different incubator and use my LG for hatching only. LG's can be challenging. Good luck!
