Thanks for all this...will try.  Does any manufacturer make a decent incubator for back yard chickens?
I'm loving my Rcom 20. I had terrible luck with styrofoam incubators in trying to control temp and humidity. The Rcom 20 costs about $450-500 new, but you might find a used one on Amazon or eBay cheaper. Luckily mine was given to me. It has taken much of the stress, anxiety, and frustration out of incubating. I have hatched 25 chicks successfully this year so far. Last year I hatched 5 out of an unmentionable amount of eggs. How lucky are you?! They say to do a test run with inexpensive eggs first time with a new bator (although I never do!). Can we see pics?
When a tester comes to your house, they are supposed to assess the overall health of the flock as well as drawing the blood on specific birds. They really don't care what you house in, and may even give you tips for better ventilation, ect. The vets that have been at my place have always been helpful -I believe these guys have 'seen it all', so as long as your birds have access to clean water, ect, you should be fine.

LOL! I'll post pics in a few days when it looks a little more complete. I need to shut my mouth, because with the little I know about incubators, I'm trying to be a know it all. I keep telling him, fix this, seal this, tighten this. He's gonna tell me to do it myself soon, if I don't watch it.

I am beside myself. I have 51 eggs in 2 LG's. One LG has a tuner and fan the other is still. The one with the turner reads 100 in one corner and 94 in the other. I can actually feel the difference in temp of the eggs. This is only the fourth time I have used the LG. I see some veining in a few eggs from different areas. It seems the eggs in the still air are doing better. I have FOUR new accurite therms...I don't know what else to do...Does anyone ever have this much trouble with an LG? I want to cry.

I'm having that issue in my still air, that has never failed me yet. this is the first time I've used an auto turner, and I'm getting variance, but not on the motor side, like I'd expect. Just got back from the feed store, and buying yet another thermometer to test with.

Definitely leave them. They may hatch a couple days behind the others but definitely don't give up on them yet.

I think it's Blarneyeggs that says, "If it doesn't stink, it stays" I've gone by that theory since I first heard it.

I did a quick candling this morning. 15 out of 15 barnies/blue barnies are developing and 10 out of 18 developing on welsummers and barnevelders. The wellies/barnies had a cross country voyage with several detached air sacs due to the post office - they were packed well by the seller.

Looks like I have some clears in some of my eggs, but some of them are so dark, I can't be certain, so they stay in the bator.

I candled a few last night, and am happy that the Barnie eggs seem to have reattached air cells (still to early to see in them though). My homegrowns are veining, but the Cochins are still worrying me. Time will tell!

Well, today's my day to clean the church, so hopefully no one stole the trashcan this time!!!

Ok, so I've been completely laid low by flu for the past week, but I am finally recovered enough to do something other than chugging Dayquil and feeling sorry for myself

I did set my eggs when I was supposed to, so I'm still with you guys! 11 Marans eggs are cookin away. Both Blue Cuckoo and Blue Splash.

Yes ma'am our whole family is so excited !!!

I did a quick candling this morning.  15 out of 15 barnies/blue barnies are developing and 10 out of 18 developing on welsummers and barnevelders. The wellies/barnies had a cross country voyage with several detached air sacs due to the post office - they were packed well by the seller.

Looks like I have some clears in some of my eggs, but some of them are so dark, I can't be certain, so they stay in the bator.

Good morning everyone!

Out of 24 eggs, I got ONE chick

He's a fatty and very alert. So I'm happy about that. But really... 1.... out of 24...

And the one that I got was from shipped eggs I put under the broody hen I have. So frustrated. Cant wait for my new incubator to get here.

But here's a pic of the new chick. He's a fluffybutt.

This is our first time as well and we are so excited to, It is definitely a small adventure trying to get the coop/run built and secure, searching for and buying the incubator, brooder all other supplies and of course the eggs...So fun. Hope you have a great hatch!

15 Cream Legbar!
They were set 3/9 but at 10 pm. And 2 eggs were added the next day.
11 of the Cream Legbars were shipped and all but 2 had detached air cells. I let them rest for 35 hours then began incubating without turning them. I placed them on the turner last night. It seemed that all but one had reattached and there seemed to be life in all the eggs!
The other 4 Legbars and the Olive eggers are from my birds so they should hatch fine!
Yay!

hey I just got these welsh harlequin duck eggs this morning and there is one cracked one- i have heard of dripping wax on them to seal them but is this too cracked to try? also second pic is of one giant egg that came with the others - interested to see if it hatches.
