Of course you have to build a new pen for them..how many pens do you have right now?  Had to ask!   I have three pens..one is at the end of the main run though, does that count?  I have two coops.  One is much smaller, for my little bantams, only going to have two.  I put babies in there once they are old enough at times.  Helps them get used to other chickens, and they can see the other big girls when they are out free ranging.

I have 2 pens and 2 coops now. And a brooder pen. Going to make a couple of breeder pens too. We just got done with soccer season for my youngest son. I was assistant coach so we have been very busy lately. So now I have a little more time to do more.

If you are candling today (for many people today is day 7), please post some pics! We first-timers would love to get some pics for comparison! :)

Happy candling!

(I know there are lots of articles about candling out there... but I just thought it would be fun to share pics here in the hatching thread...)

I added more eggs to the incubator today,I like when I can take warm eggs from a hen and put them straight in the incubator.

Lucky. I caught my tom turkey eating a freshly-laid egg right out from under the hen who laid it

Yeah, these turkeys really need to be processed. Wish I was able to do it myself where I am.

I have a question for the mods of this event. I looked up my name on the front page (in the list of participants) and saw that there is an asterisk next to my name on the "How many eggs set" column. Is this to show that I set my eggs outside of the days when participants were setting eggs that went toward the total count?

I'm not mad or anything, I was just wondering

CANDLE EGGS
DAY 7

When you Candle on day 7 there should be a red dot about the size of a match head with faint blood vessels surrounding it and you may see the embryo move. This is an exciting time to candle! Eggs without any indications of fertility should be re-candled at 10 days and 14 days. If your not sure and it doesn’t smell leave it! If your egg is colored or a brown egg, it is harder to see through the shell, you may want to wait a few days and try again. Or find a better candler. If an egg has not been fertilized, it will be completely translucent inside the shell and you won't be able to see anything but perhaps yolk.

It IS ALIVE!!!! Video below day 7 Candle This Gal CRACKS me up!
