. But as for the air pocket either I am blind or my lamp is preventing me from seeing them. I haven't been paying much attention to the humidty as this is my first hatch and I am trying to go the least effort method

. If I fail misserable I know why.

Here are some pic's of my "Gathering stage"

I figured I'd use these frames as flooring or clading

A grocery store is remodeling and I've been dumpster diving. After I remove the hardware I can use these for multiple applications, wish I had more of em.
That's great!

Are any of those three chicks you hatched from me looking girly? I lost track of which ones you kept and which ones you've sold already.

Well, I just had my dad show up and give me a hard time for walking around the yard barefoot and in my robe to collect eggs. Hey, at least I ain't a streakin'!

Thought I'd share this for those of you newer to the injury side of chickens.

I've always known that chickens hide their injuries/pain well, but I didn't realize how much pain they could hide until today. We had a cockerel limping - when I picked him up, I could move his hock joint sideways, and I could feel a popping feeling in the joint, so I assumed that's where the break was. I noticed his limping 2 days ago - and I'm out with my flock A LOT. (just ask my DH) We put him down this morning. I was going to process him for us to eat, until I plucked him.

His leg was broken up high on his thigh, the back leg bone and he was internally bleeding. This boy had to be in some serious pain, though he didn't show it. The only sign was he couldn't put weight on his leg.
So sad, I have a couple hens I've been nursing, but they aren't getting better. They seem in such good spirits despite their injuries.

I am right in the middle of the state. We love Fernandina! We usually go there atleast once a year. Beautiful place! Well if he makes it to middle Ga contact me and I will cook him some awesome bbq. I make my own rub and slow cook it. Everybody says it is the best they have had. Our church come to me whenever we need something cooked.
MMMMM Is that an open invitation? Sounds delicious!

Hello my name is Amy and I have a chicken addiction!
My 2 youngest are 15 & 17. I am feeling emptynest big time but filling it with chickens. In the last 30 days I have hatched 13 chicks, bought 13 EE chicks, 6 Cochin chicks and have 33 eggs for the hatchalong. Today at atwoods a local farm store I bought 6 golden comet chicks (I buy these every year for my layer flock they lay huge eggs. ) then at our local auction tonight I came home with 4 lf Cochins. All this ontop of the 30 some adult birds I have already.
Signed
The crazy chicken lady
They do say confession is good for the soul. I might be accused of thread hijacking if I start in though so

And I've definitely lost 11 out of the 30 fancy local eggs... Most of them are clear.... Others have nasty blood ring and obviously dead embryo....

I'm thinking I should call her and tell her that all the polish eggs developed blood rings and quit around day 6-8.... And all the Mille fluer Cochins were clear) I'd want to know if I were selling hatching eggs.... Thoughts?
Yes, as a breeder I would want to know how a buyers hatch turns out, however as one who sells hatching eggs, all I could really be held accountable for is providing fertile eggs. If developing eggs quit, how could the breeder be held responsible for the uncontrolled environment in the buyer's care? It has happened to me and I'm sure the seller would have given me more eggs but since they developed, I figure failing to get them to hatch was not really their fault. I guess I would be careful how you approach it.
Sorry though, that's real disappointment.

Here is photo of my eggs set. a combo of poultry:

left to right---
4 easter eggers and 1 buff orpington
4 black sexlinks ( OE's)
5 muscovy duck,
11 black copper marans and

9 ANd SPeckled Sussex

= 34 eggs

.
Looking good! Love the colors!
Today for me was day six and I candled. I didn't bother looking at the 4 Marans eggs, but I checked the other 26 and they are all growing. The magic of eggs from your own flock instead of shipped!
Success! :)

I would let her know for sure, in a very kind and caring way :)
We did our first ever candling last night. So exciting to see the chicks developing! Thanks to all the great tip sheets on this site we actually knew what we were looking at.

Out of 37 shipped eggs, we had 7 clear, 2 definite blood rings (no veining), and 3 more possible blood rings (showing veining as well.) We're removing the obvious clears, and giving the possibles a few more days. Thrilled to have at least 25 viable eggs at this point!
I'm right there with you on the first-timer thing! Congrats!

Red, I'm so happy for you! Here come the babies!

Good Saint Paddys' day to all.................
I haven't had much luck checking my eggs ...EE ..they are too thick
and I haven't the best light to check with...decided the best idea was to let nature
do its thing and have a surprise at hatch time.....I usually only check my goose eggs as they
are much easier to view....
On a different note.....my canary has hatched her clutch ( due on 17 but, came on 16th)
Thought I'd have wee paddy day babes......interesting to sit here (cage in computer room) and
watch momma being fed by dad and then she feeds young......much less work for me....
Well in two weeks I'll be doing the momma duties if all goes well with my hatch........
