All this talk of broodies. No broodies here. But the other day when I reached under my English Orp to collect eggs, all I felt was skin. She's bare from her crop to between her legs. She's never been broody before, but I could fit a crapload of eggs under her as she's HUGE.

My eggs are suppose to be there this morning. call truck not there yet. I am really worried they won't hatch or mashed. They are sure giving me the run around.
Now if by some chance of luck their not mashed is it better to put in incabator and not turn for a few days or wait a couple days than put in bator. They were sent the 28th I think.....

It is easy to blame USPS when the eggs are broken in the box. Times have changed and so we need to change the way the eggs are packaged. The Skyline Method or some variation will get them there even through multiple post offices. http://www.skylinepoultry.com/Packing___shipping_eggs.html

Then Wisher1000 took that up a notch: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/738943/the-great-egg-shipping-experiment

Check out how she packed the eggs she sent me. Those eggs were shipped via ground from Alabama to CA. They traveled over a holiday and it took 8 days to get to me! Double boxing really helps with the eggs. The eggs hatched very nicely too.

Check out my post 855: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/738943/the-great-egg-shipping-experiment/850 Those boxes both left the same state on the same day. The double boxed shipment cost $14.20 to ship.

I hope this helps those shipping eggs to get them to their destination in better shape.
I double box. There were 15 eggs in the shipment. A dozen and extras. I wrap each egg individually, then tape 2-3 together (this time 3) then I wrap those groups in more bubble wrap. I stuff every tiny space around them and I tape the heck out of the box. Last year I shipped 36 eggs to Alaska and 28 hatched. I can't get 15 eggs a few hours away. Those eggs were up and down the state.

This is just their trip from tuesday till the 29th! They got delivered yesterday!

OK, now for the positive.

Miracle chicks!!! They've already been picked up by the people who were buying and I told them to be careful since they may have issues from latching so late. They had the option of taking them or not and they wanted them.

3 Bantam Blue Langshuns
4 Golden Cuckoo Marans
16 FBCMs
2 BCMs
1 OE
1 Splash Sumatra
10 Welsummers (Should have kept them since they were all pullets!!!)
1 Modern Game
3 American Games
1 Silver Phoenix.

More pipped, but died, but MAN!!!!
I went through eggs last night and pulled out anything that I could tell was clear and all that I wasn't sure about from last time. I didn't even worry about humidity, I just sey my next hatch and stuck anything with an for sure chick back in and was going to pull them all out this morning. I dropped my daughter at the DR's and bought the grand daughters BK french toast and when I went in to grab them more napkins I heard a tiny peep. Thought it was the brooder, but then something moved. One little Game chick was peeking out and when I looked down, he was looking up and peeped again. I opened the door and he came right out to me. LOL Then I hear terrifed cheeping and low and behold............Chicks all bunched up in the back. Checked the other bators and a few chicks in each. Not a total loss!!!

So set 151 and pulled ..............ummm....LOTS and 4 days late I have 42 hatched!!!!

I emailed my people and ran to meet them both. They were so excited since I told them the hatch was a bust!!! YAY!

I am having issues with the link to post what you habe hatched. Maybe it is because I'm on my phone, but the other links seem to work. Don't know

OMG me too. I had lots of clears from those 3 pens, so a lot that I didn't get were from those. Fertility is up and I have some developing and set some last night. Well, that's wrong. I set them at about 3am this morning. LOL Now to hatch some for me!!

Your Prim is definitely a keeper.  What a wonderful momma she is, she probably feels safe and wanted with her adopted chicks.

She is a keeper! I love that chicken!! And if she keeps this up, I'll just keep giving her chicks to raise... It's a whole lot easier than raising them myself! I wish I would have figured it out earlier...

shipped eggs arrived nothing on the outside is broke... haven't candled the eggs. they were a lot lighter than i thought they would be. far from robin blue

Those are hard to get and depending on the variety, they as sometimes a little greener. Just means introducing black along the way to get those really blue eggs. My best lavenders from my favorite breeder lay more of a green, but I introduced a split lav roo and the hens I got from her lay a much bluer egg. But they also have her beauty!
