They have several hatch a longs a year. also its great to check the BYC contests section of the forum on occasion. https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15879/sponsored-content-contests-and-giveaways Not sure what hatch-a-long is next or who will be handling them though. Glad you liked the contests!

Why its Cinco de Mayo hatch along of course, ran by ChooksChick. It is suppose to be a turkey hatch along but they welcome all sine the turkeys need tutors...lol

I noticed a difference in my Rirs wings... Most stick out from there body and are longer and then about 3 of them have feathers that lay more against the body and are more even. Above is pictures to show what I'm talking about, could this be a possible way to sex them? Probably wishful thinking lol but just really noticing it and found it interesting.

And no they are not being held by there necks, it sort of looks like that though. They are well restrained in my hands.

There is a way to sex chicks by their feathers at 1-3 days old. In fact just search on this site, it has pic's and is very easy. Although I don't know if RIR is a breed that can be sexed by feathers

It doesn't look like I'll be able to post a pic for the cutest easter chick contest. Mom's laptop is down yet again and I'm not sure when we're fixing it. Here's hoping my brother comes through for me tomorrow.

I have ANOTHER broody. So that makes 3 hens in the same pen. Her eggs are about a week in development. What next? The other 5 hens?

I was thinking about doing the Turkey hatch (but with chickens) to make up for this hatch, but I think I need a break. I'm still on the fence about it.

And finally, Blu says hi.

There are still a lot of missing hatch numbers.

Please post your final numbers of chicks you hatched here so we can record them for the contests.

Deadline is 4/6 to get them in.

I am pretty sure I posted mine, but I was talking with someone, so not sure you may have caught it..I had 10 hatch. :( Not good at all this time around.

Here they are! 4 Barnyard Mix (California White x BR, GSL, RIR), 2 French Black Copper Maran, 1 Olive Egger (FBCM x WA), 1 Wheaten Ameracauna... in that order :)

Ace, they are darling..is that a slick place they are standing on? Asking, because of that little one doing the splits there..is it splayed? Or does it walk normal when in the brooder? Had to ask. :p Hoping your OE is a girl..because that's what I would be doing if it were mine. I want an Olive Egg! :D

Here are our Final hatch numbers:

42 eggs set
4 Clear
1 Blood Ring

and our Broody Goldie was set to hatch on Monday, but I didn't see a baby until Tuesday evening. (I did not include Broody's eggs in the initial hatch-a-long set numbers). As of Wednesday evening, she has 3 babies out of 6 eggs! This is our first time having a broody hatch eggs, and this is our 2nd hatch in an incubator. This hatch was much better. I'm not sure if it's because there were no shipped eggs in this batch or not? Out of 42 eggs that were set in the incubator, all but 8 eggs were from our own flock. We have an Ameraucana Black/Lavender split Rooster over 1-Golden Laced Wyandotte, 2-Buff Orps, 3-RIR's, 1 Barred Rock, & 3-EE's. I think our babies are soooo cute with their puffy, Ameraucana cheeks, of course my opinion might be a little biased! LOL

Theresa/Sunnydale Farm

Our scheduled hatch date was Easter Sunday, but some came a day early. 1st egg hatched on Sat., 3/30 at 5:30pm

These are some of the lighter chicks: Buff Orps & RIR's with our Ameraucana Black Roo

Top view of brooder with 32 chicks, 29 from Incubator & 3 from Broody Hen-4/03/13

Just love this pic of Henrietta's Baby! (Buff Orp X Ameraucana Black Roo)

Found these 3 beauties under our Broody Goldie (Golden Laced Wyandotte). Hopefully, the remaining 3 eggs will be hatched when I check on her in the morning.
