Wolf-- love the picture, very professional! Must be that new phone!!
Quote: I usually open the egg at the air cell end, shine in a light and look for movement. OThers like the float test. I do this about 2 days after due date. Before that I can candle looking for internal pip and assist if needed. I'm sure someone will explain the float test-- I"ve not done it. GL

Quote: Put some warm water in a container. When it settles, place your non-pipped egg in the water. If it just floats steady, there is most likely nothing alive inside. A live chick will make the egg bob from side to side in the water almost immediately. I couldn't imagine it. I'd stare at eggs and try to decide if I saw movement. Then I actually got one that was alive, there is no mistaking it. The movement is decisive. As an added bonus, within an hour the egg had pipped, I don't know if it was the extra moisture.

Yes it is! Thank goodness I have somewhat clearer pics now. Can't wait to be able to take pics of all the birds.

But in the meantime, I'm going to take pics of all the damage in my yard. The Marans pen was still being worked on and wasn't secured to the bottom frame. It lifted up and onto rabbit cages and cages that are holding a pair and trio of birds I was trying to keep secure. Yeah that didn't happen. My yard is destroyed, I have birds all over running loose and the wind is supposed to keep up through wednesday. I can't believe how bad it is out there.

from mbmess2003

Oh, thank you! Such a fun photo and stupid luck to capture it. I was trying to get photos of the pair together showing an Iowa Blue rooster and hen together, so rapid fired photos of them and found this photo when going through to get the best one. Made me LOL when I saw it, literally. Not sure what the impulse was on the hen's part, but it was a funny shot!

Congrats to Harley. That photo is too funny. How in the world did you catch that photo? Please don't tell us she does this on a regular basis, and you decided to get the camera out one day.

Straight up dumb luck, just happened to catch it while snapping some pics of the flock.

That's funny because last week I was throwing tiny bits of cheese (AKA chicken crack) for the girls & one piece landed on the back of my black orpington just above her tail. She spun around in circles trying to get it. Oh, how I wish I had a video of that!

I bet that was funny! I have certainly had my dogs do this as well. Funniest similar event I've ever seen was with one of my corn snakes. I had a male putting his suave moves on his lady when she twitched him off and ran. His head got bumped off and landed on his own back, which he basically followed around in a circle thinking his lady love was escaping. That faster he'd crawl, the faster "she'd escape". Picture an orange corn snake basically doubled up two layers in a 9 inch diameter circle, crawling up his own back as fast as he could go...and they can move pretty fast when motivated. Poor boy spun around so fast and furious for 5 minutes that he created a huge rut in the substrate down to the cage floor. I was literally crying, it was so funny. Can not BELIEVE I didn't get it on video.

Congrats to all of the winners!!

I feel a winner too since I did a 100% hatch rate!!

I want to thank all of the wonderful people who helped to organize this contest and the people who donated such great prizes!

X2! Thank you to everyone who organized, offered prizes, and participated! It was a fun hatch!

Hatching done and chickies gone to their new homes.
The ACV and grit help alot with the pasty butt. I couldn't get them to eat the yogurt. maybe I didn't add enough grit to it? Thanks Ron for your help.
Thanks to the moderator and all the helpers and the contest starters. It was a blast. I will definitely join another hatchalong When I get eggs to hatch for someone.
Congratulations to all the contest winners, I enjoyed everyone's pictures and stories.
