Hi Michele. Guess what. I switched the thermostat in my incubator yesterday and started it back up. I also have eggs in lock down. I was testing eggs from my Speckled Sussex pen. Its a good thing because the rooster decided to die last week for lack of anything better to do. These temp changes have really messed with the birds. I lost my 5 year old Blue Cochin rooster too. Then, ... a gander keeps getting in with the ducks and killing the drakes. I lost over 10 drakes to that darn gander.

Well folks, things have changed at our house. My oldest daughter (26) has moved back home and has to move her stuff into the room that I normally use for incubating and brooding, so I'm not going to be able to participate in this hatch. Best of luck and good hatching vibes to everyone!!
We will miss you!

I use a walk in closet for hatching...just saying....

Quote: i probably will, i have convinced myself that I will be a rescuer to the chicks by getting them after easter, thats what I keep telling my parents! those chicks NEED a rescuer, lol!

and from what i know those are good laying birds, i got two one year that were colorful and they are always cranking out them eggs.
Raise up a number of them-- sell the roosters for food and sell the pullets at POL. YOu would be surprized at the number of people that don't want the first 6 months of raising chicks.
sell the roosters for food? Why not eat them ourselves?

I think i might do that actually.. that would be a good way to make some cash! (some, not a lot, but some. and rescue them!! haha)
THey are delish-- I actually like the flavor better than the cornish X at the grocery store!! I put abut 50 in the freezer last fall and roast two at a time in the roasting pan DH bought for me after I raised up BBW's to 35# dressed weight. THey don't fit in the new roaster pan either.

we raised 3 cornish x that my dad came home with one day.

i dont remember what sex, but that 8 weeks in we had to do a mercy kill before they died themselves! it was 100 + degrees and not letting up, and they couldnt walk anymore.

we also raised 100 broilers, raccoon got 50

Omg, I totally set eggs in sych with all of you (well, at 4pm, not noon), and didn't even know it!! Can I join in or is it too late?

Hello everyone, a fellow BYC'er had a devastating barn fire, early Monday morning. They lost all there animals and the barn burned down. As we all know a building is replaceable, but the animals not so much. Please visit their facebook and send your prays, there is also a place to send donations if anyone wants to help, reading this brought me to tears as I had PM'd them to ask about their puppy and a brooder they built. I felt horrible.
