my point exacty, I think it all depends on the bird its health lighting and so on... Too many variables to say Dont hatch a "pullet egg" for me! If its of normal size and structure, SET IT!
Quote: Yes Pullet eggs are fine if the correct size.
Please do not sell them to me for 8 bucks an egg though if they are smaller than 1.75 ounces...
Quote: x2 HOWEVER I think technially the term "pullet egg" is sorta like "dry incubation methods" Dont read too much into the names!
Someone please tell me the AGE at which an egg is no longer a pullet egg?
For Large Fowl, eggs should not be incubated if they are less then 1.75 ounces. Pullet eggs are fine, it is little pullet eggs that are the problem. It usually takes a month or so of laying to get to the size good for hatching.
Of course I would still throw them into the Bator! They are not the best but a lot of them will still hatch!
Ron I would love to add a little note about pullet eggs into the hatching 101 article, do you know where you got those numbers or can you write me something up to add to the egg collections section?
Whee! Have just received a pre-built bator instead of the Incu Kit I had originally asked for for Valentine's Day! So, am definitely participating!

Oh yes, that was for Large Fowl!
Whatever is "Medium" egg for the breed. They have a chart for bantam eggs right?
I will look for where I read about egg size.

I found a Guide!
23 to 27 ounce per dozen is 1.9 to 2.25 ounces. A bit above and a bit below will give lower hatch rates.
Once again, large fowl! The eggs should be from a medium large to an Xlarge egg. Jumbos will be harder but Who would not want chickens that lay Jumbo eggs?
Ok yes some would not want eggs that large. I Understand too.
I was so excited when I got my very first pullet eggs back in January that I set them all. Guess what....every one of those tiny pullet eggs hatched a beautiful baby!!! In fact they are a week old today.my point exacty, I think it all depends on the bird its health lighting and so on... Too many variables to say Dont hatch a "pullet egg" for me!
