Morning everyone! I had a busy day yesterday. My best friend (or little sister as I normally call her. She's 16.) decided she want to go to our local card and table top gaming shop yesterday and asked us to come along. She was playing in one of their tournaments (sadly I could participate) and was very nervous. Thankfully everyone there was great and helped her learn. She only been playing Magic: The Gathering for 2 weeks now.

This morning my nearly year old white game hen Tally laid her first egg! I'd have pics, but by the time I got out to get it they had already dented one side and put a crack in the other. It's about time she started to lay!

Oh my goodness...I just found this thread (where have I been?!?)...I will have to make a new 'bator....but COUNT ME IN!!!! Easter chicks...of COURSE!!!

Is this how I get added, or is there a different link to fill out?

So lastnight, we set up the incubator. I have it running to get the temps right and humidity right. I am going to do a test hatch of my own eggs to make sure everything is working. I will be hand turning the eggs this time instead of using the turner. Any other suggestions?

Addition: The reason I will be using the incubator is my broody hens are starting to quit on me.. I wanna make sure I have something running for the hatch a long.

It might be time to do the health things for them.

Float test to check for worms
Worm them
Dust them for mites and lice
Give them some Big Old Bird from Southland Organics or Rooster Booster type supplements
Make sure they have free choice calcium. Calcium causes contractions and helps them lay. Cayenne pepper is also supposed to get them laying.

Depending on how far North you are they should start laying like crazy

I'm in Ohio. I have checked for mites. I dont see worms in anyones poop. I just started the red pepper, and turned on a light 2 days ago. My 3 oldest birds decided it was a great time to molt, last month. I will try the calcium thing and i have both rooster booster and big ole bird but the second makes my.wafers dirty, I will boost them. My turkey went broodie in January and tried to sit on 19 eggs in the snow. Haven't seen an egg from her since then. I am setting up a couple more lights in two of my other coops. I think it is this up and down weather we are having.

Is this true....someone told me I could transmit mites to my coop, if I recieved a bird that has mites, he was treated before he left, and i dusted him when i got him, and he is in. my mud room away from the other birds, i havent seen any on him and will be trating him again on Wednesday.
