The 4th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-a-long

Unfortunately, it's up to the sponsor that is donating the prize. I didn't like it either, and I'm trying to see what we can do to include those in Canada. Obviously though, any prize that is hatching eggs we won't be able to include Canada, as we can't send eggs over the border.

The hatch-a-long is for everyone - not matter what country you reside in.

Thank you for the response Happy Chooks. On a site such as this with such a global following, it's just sad that so many are excluded. Surely there must be some Canadian egg producers/product suppliers on this forum that would be willing to participate? I appreciate your trying to accommodate.

I was really excited to join the hatch-along and see what contests would be offered this time. I had already been making plans to set March 10 for an actual Easter Day hatch and secured all my eggs, but then the hatch-along data came out wanting a March 9 set date. LOL Figures. Since I'm ineligible for all the contests, all I can do is follow along instead of participate.

As an aside, I took matters into my own hands and set up a Canadian site for egg swaps with the expectation that we Canucks would still be able to participate in BYC hatches/contests. If the trend continues to exclude us, I suppose we may end up doing our own hatch-alongs too

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case.

I'm eggsited!! I just got seven eggs today and its just a little past noon!! Go girls just waiting to see if I can get 2 more! Then that means all my girls will finally be laying!!!

You can collect eggs up until 10 days or so, but after the 7th day lower hatch rates may result.
Did you know that Stored eggs take longer to hatch (about one hour per day of storage).

That does sound like fun and like the tv show lol. ANd a week visit isnt bad. I just found out my DH invited his mother to stay with us for 6 MONTHS

I just lived with the in-laws for a year. Sweet in-laws, but still a LOOONG year. The upside, it's been a year since, and it's a distant memory, so life does return to normal. I have also never been so appreciative of privacy. Good Luck.

Fresh eggs have the best hatch rate and the older they are the percentages drop. So I would say hatchability would be something like this:
1-6 days excellent
6-10 very good to good
10-14 good to fair
14 and older---good luck

Braaaains...

reminds me of some broiler chickens our neighbors never processed- they would follow about 10 feet behind wherever you went in a huge waddling pack- we called them "zombie chickens" and imagined them saying "Graaaaaains"
