I really want to come to your house today. That just sounded too much like Little House on The Prairie (best T.V. show EVER). Have Fun. Off to church for me and then cleaning ALL DAY for DH's cousins to come stay for a week!

Yes, coccidiosis kills fast. All birds are exposed to it from the soil, but sometimes their bodies get overloaded and they can't fight it. It's not a disease that you need to cull for - they can fully recover from it. Older birds rarely get it because they have been exposed to it and have developed an immunity to it.

Corid is amprolium. It is not an antibiotic. It is an amino acid that blocks thiamine. The Protozoa that causes coccidiosis is sensitive to it, so it helps the birds recover and develop an immunity to it.

Here is the dosage - 1/2 tsp per gallon. Don't mix anything else in the water with it.

5-7 days.

Will eggs 2 weeks old still develope well? I was thinking of starting collecting next weekend but I cant decide whats a good day.

I say it's worth a try. I have heard of people taking fertile store-bought eggs and incubating them with decent results. And who knows how old those were before they came home! I'm going to be setting eggs that are a couple of weeks old, since my girls like to tease me and are laying sporadically.

reminds me of some broiler chickens our neighbors never processed- they would follow about 10 feet behind wherever you went in a huge waddling pack- we called them "zombie chickens" and imagined them saying "Graaaaaains"
