You must remember that incubator instructions refer to wet bulb

http://www.easycalculation.com/weather/embedded_dewpoint-wetbulb-calculator.php

if your room is 1000millibars, 72 degrees and has a relative humidity of just 25%, you would get a wet bulb humidity of 55%

my advice is

take the water out of the bottom, open the plugs and dont add water till day 18 then add plenty of it

others will tell you different so read and decide for yourself.

Earlier today I took all water out and this evening it is still running at 53% but maybe it's because it's raining and the humidity it almost 40% in the house ... Thanks for the help

I got offered a deal I can't resit. My Amish neighbor came over today and asked if I was still incubating, I just looked at him and said you betcha, he said to me that the guy he raises pigs for now wants to do turkeys and is going to bring him 6 turkeys over to breed, 1 tom and 5 hens and they want me to incubate them, I was like really, he said after they find out how many, we will work the monies out, So I get to hatch turkeys, Now it's time to fire up the Old Farm Master bator

the temp in a dry incubator will be 15-20 points lower than the house as the heat in the bator dries it even further. maybe you need to check your hygrometer

I'm curious as to what the biggest turn out was for one of these hatch-a-longs.
In answer to this post Im going to go ahead and post the next Fun Fact that I was going to post tomorrow.

Last years 3rd Annual Easter Hatch Along had 268 participants. So far we have 200 participants (atleast I think...)

We need 69 more participants to beat last years record and only 12 days to do it! Come on lurkers...go ahead and join. You know you want to.

WOW, you counted ? You should change your signature from last years hatch to this one, maybe that would help.

I have a question for you all on here. I have about 40 eggs that go into lockdown wednesday. 10 from wisher and 30 from my own hens. Now to the question. Should I lay the eggs on their sides in the hatcher or put them in cartons? I have hatched a couple hundred eggs over the past few years and have done it both ways but never took note as to which is better. Is the hatching position determined by the air cell size or does that matter? the air cells in my eggs are about where they should be if that helps.

I've done it both ways, but like you never took notes. On other hatch a longs people have said to hatch in position they were incubated, if they were upright in a turner hatch in a carton, if hand turned, hatch on their sides, but I have no stats. Good Luck!

They have been in turners so I am probably going to cut the bottoms out of some cartons and see how that goes for me. Thank you sounds like good advice. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? It's a good learning topic.
