My calls quit laying with the bad weather we've had the last few weeks, so I only had one lonely egg to set from them. I did put in some goose eggs to hopefully give it some company, if they are fertile.

I have 2 serama laying and I'm collecting whatever I get from them, and still hoping I'll get a d'uccle egg or 2 to set in time. I think that's all I'll be able to squeeze in my little incubator. Which is why, after I get my mandarin pen done, my next project is going to be to build an incubator.
My girls started, then quite, some have started again, others not. THese chicks' aren't stupid. Just makes scheduling and planning difficult!

My Pekin stopped laying when it started raining a lot here.

I just walked into my bedroom and glanced out the window. My first thought..............how'd the turkeys get out? Nope, a flock of 31 full grown turkeys walking by. Of course when I opened the door to the deck they all moved to the far side of the lawn, but it was quite a sight.

I think he was trying to entice her into the next generation............LOL

I remember trying to gently guide two bronze turkeys into a big dog crate, the whole time cursing the so and so who who dropped of their unwanted creatures. Me being NPIP and trying to stay clean, I was making good progress, t he two just 6 feet from the crate when in a blast they took flight. Blast off!!! Joke on me, wild birds!

They went into the old pine to sit and gaze at me, the dufus! lol

Quote: My first 2 broodies I took the chicks at hatch-- seemed like the easier way to handle the situation as I wasn't prepared to separate a broodie and her chicks for their safety. I've gotten over that-- a year later I kicked the ducks out of their coop and put the next broodie in. THat girl raised 12 out of 13 chicks. Great broodie!! A little EE mix mutt. A keeper.

Sounds like it. Now if one of my Games would go broody and not hide the nest, I'd stick eggs under her. They'll take off and come back with 8-15 chicks at a time. Where the heck to they keep 15? They aren't that big! Who knows how many they actually have??? I only realize they've taken off and 3 weeks and a couple of days later, I have a momma back, leading chicks to the feeders. LOL
