Good morning everyone! Set day is almost here Im very excited!

I have off of work today and so does DH and the kids have no school, we got a decent amount of snow last night. Im also babysitting neices and nephew today So my relaxing day off is now going to be loud crazy and spent playing out in the snow and picking up the neverending tornado of toys lol.

On a sad note I lost my favorite chicken yesterday she was only 1 year and 1 week old, she was an EE named Stella. It was so sad to find her especially because she wasnt sick that I could see on the outside so Im not sure what happened she was low or even bottom of the pecking order and I did seperate her flock into 2 different houses half went into the breeders house and half went into the layers house. Im thinking I accidentally took her pal also low on the pecking order and she seemed to have gotten depressed. Can they die from loneliness or depression?

On a happy note I candled my broodies eggs yesterday they were on day 4 but she was off the nest for a stretch so I grabbed my flashlight and a coat to throw over my head to try to get some darkness and at least 3 of the 5 are veining maybe even the other 2 though it wasnt very dark for candling. So that means my Marans Rooster is doing his job even with his awful limp. Im very excited.

Oh Boy I need some coffee Im gonna go make a pot and then trudge through the snow to my chickens/turkeys

Hey guys...I am hatching away here just in time to clean out the bator for the easter hatch. I think I got my days wrong. I thought they should have hatched monday or tuesday, instead they started yesterday. I was beginning to get very worried as this is that new brinsea I posted a picture of. But it is looking good. Out of 16 eggs, I have 10 out and 2 more pipped. Have a couple of questions though...

This is a BBS Maran...That red spot on its head is not a picture flaw, it is actually there. Have you ever seen anything like that? It is really a auburn red color. Makes me curious and am going to send a pic to the breeder and see his thoughts.

Also this is my first time hatching buff brahmas. Anyone know if they can be color sexed? I have 2 that are colored very differently.

Not sure if anyone answered this but I have read the brown spot indicates the Wheaten gene and I have seen it here and it seem to follow as true.

Happy Friday everybody! Loving the chick pics!
Great boys you have there michaelf! Nice to see they're into other things besides video games!
I just found a Buckeye breeder up here in Canada, RedBug! No worries.
Sorry about your EE Stella, chicken pickin. That's sad. :( At least you'll have some new chicks coming! I have a Cuckoo Marans siring all my next hatch. I checked several eggs yesterday for fertility & yes, he's doing his job well! Yay!

Got a busy day today. Routine maintenance on car, then collect the day's maple sap, monitor LG, collect more hatching eggs, check on my 6 week olds in the grow-out coop,.........
